Maximising Miles/Cash Backs for your iPhone 6 (or 6 Plus) Purchase

If for some reason you do not already know this, Apple has only quite recently announced the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus for this year. In Singapore, pre-order for the new iPhones begin on 12 September (yes that's tomorrow!) with a limit of two per customer. The lowest end of the spectrum is the iPhone 6 (16GB) which is S$988 and on the other end is the iPhone 6 Plus (128GB) at S$1,448.

CASH BACK

If you're just buying one phone and you are after Cash Back, consider using a OCBC Frank Credit Card which gives you 6% rebate with a minimum spend of S$500 in a calendar month. The maximum rebate is capped at S$60 per month. Buying the iPhone 6 (16GB) will give you an approximate rebate of S$59.

If you are buying two phones however, it maybe wise to use a Standard Chartered MANHATTAN Card to get a maximum of 3% rebate with a cap of S$200 per quarter. Buying two iPhone 6 Plus (128GB) will cost S$2,896 so be sure to make up the S$104 difference in the same month in order to qualify for the full cash back potential.

MILES

Regardless of whether you are buying one or two iPhones, it will be smart to charge your purchase to the UOB Preferred Platinum Visa Card which gives you 20 Miles per S$5 for online purchases. Purchasing the iPhone 6 (16GB) will earn you approximately 3,940 miles while purchasing two iPhone 6 Plus (128GB) at S$2,986 will give earn you 11,580 Miles which is equivalent to S$110 if you use it to offset your airfare. Of course, redemption will offer much greater value (to find out more about chasing miles, click HERE to read my previous entry).

Please take note that you will not be able to take advantage of the KrisFlyer Spree in earning an additional bonus of 7 KF Miles per US$10 as no reward will be given for the purchase of iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.
