The craziness that followed the Starwood acquisition news saw Hyatt scrambling and offering Hyatt Diamond. While the hotel giant has previously accepted top tier statuses with competing programs like IHG Spire Elite, Hilton Diamond Elite, Marriott Platinum Elite and SPG Platinum Elite, the conditions of getting a status match have become more stringent over time.
I have submitted a status match to Hyatt Diamond using my Hilton Diamond Elite account and was given the following response:
Dear Mr. Chua,
I hope that this message finds you well.
It is my pleasure to inform you that we have upgraded your account to Platinum until February 2017. You will begin to enjoy the many benefits of the Platinum tier status such as guaranteed availability 72 hours prior to arrival, best room within the category booked, as well as 15% bonus points per stay among many other wonderful benefits.
You may maintain this tier going forward by completing 5 eligible stays or 15 qualifying nights between January 1 – December 31, 2016.
As part of a limited time special offer, we are currently matching elite status with peer programs to Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum status. At this time, the only way to achieve the Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond tier is to complete the normal earning criteria or to submit Starwood Preferred Guest information showing Platinum status, as well as 20 nights with SPG in the last 12 months.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Welcome to Hyatt Platinum!
While I do not blame Hyatt at all for matching me to Platinum, I am just pretty disappointed since it was offered but not carried through. On the other hand, kudos to Hilton for doing this right!
Accruing points and miles is therapeutic - I would even go as far to say that it is even more satisfying that watching your savings grow. From now until 19 May 2017, benefit from 100% bonus IHG Rewards Club points when you purchase using this link. If you were to purchase the maximum number of points allowed (60,000) in a calendar year, you will get 120,000 IHG Rewards Club Points (after the 100% bonus) for US$690 (S$963) which may offer great value at a number of InterContinental properties in the region.
Purchase Mileage Plan Miles between 15 May 2017 and 01 July 2017 and get up to 50% more! As a quick reminder, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles are great for usage on Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific even intra-Asia where a flight will cost only 25,000 and 22,500 miles respectively. I have mentioned previously how it is possible to travel from within Asia in Business Cabin of Japan Airlines for just 25,000 miles (with a complimentary stopover in Tokyo).
Now that Starwood Hotels and Resorts is part of the greater Marriott International portfolio, it would make sense to view the brands simultaneously (especially since you get reciprocal elite benefits across SPG, Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards now). For stays between 27 May 2017 and 4 September 2017, be sure to register for Marriott Rewards' MegaBonus and SPG's Take Three promotion to maximise on the upcoming stays. If you do not have any status with any program, remember you can get SPG Gold (and therefore Marriott Rewards Gold) with just one stay if you have a World MasterCard issued in Asia-Pacific!
A couple of days ago I was considering the purchase of a Qantas Club membership - this is basically a paid membership with Qantas that offers a number of benefits for the cardholder whenever he or she travels on an eligible Qantas or Jetstar flight. The main benefit that I am interested in is access to the Qantas lounges - I have previously checked out the Qantas International Lounges in Singapore and Hong Kong respectively (when I used to hold Gold status with the program).
New Accelerate offers are up and you can now sign-in to see what your offers are for the upcoming quarter (15 May 2017 to 31 August 2017) ahead! In case you do not know what they are, they are basically a set of challenges that are tailored to your IHG Rewards Club account based on stay history and elite status. Completing these tasks will trigger an achievement bonus (which is usually quite impressive) that will earn you a lot of IHG Rewards Club points!
There is only one week left to take advantage of the double points promotion that Hilton Honors is running - from now until 03 May 2017, purchase at least 5,000 Hilton Honors Points and get 100% more! With that being said, you should only take advantage of this promotion if you have an intended use for the Hilton Honors Points.

There is currently a limited-time offer for purchasing Mileage Plan (Alaska Airlines) Miles. For the first 2,500 members only, you can purchase 10,000 miles and get 4,000 bonus miles (total of 14,000 miles) for just US$295.63 (approx. S$412).
If you hold a MasterCard (and of course you should since the DBS Woman's World MasterCard needs to be in every Singaporean's wallet), you will be eligible for 12% off hotel bookings made on Expedia. All you have to do is to register the first six digits of your MasterCard in order to get a unique coupon code - if you wish to find out whether your desired hotel is participating in this promotion, you may use '542089' but do remember that the payment needs to be completed using an eligible MasterCard. I am also not sure if this promotion will stack with ShopBack but it is worth a try.
