Of course, you can't say you have visited Yogyakarta until you have tried one of the most famous local delicacies, the gudeg (young jackfruit that is cooked lovingly with palm sugar and coconut milk - a Javanese delight!). While gudeg itself can be considered a vegetarian dish, it is commonly served with ayam goreng (fried chicken), sambel goreng krechek (spicy and crispy beef stew) or other delicious proteins.
