The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) introduced Business Rewards back in 2015 which allows users and professionals to be rewarded for booking accommodations as well as meeting spaces for others. The Double Play Double Points promotion which is currently running (between 01 January 2017 and 15 April 2017) allows users to earn up to 6 IHG Rewards Club points (instead of 3) per US$1 for events and stays up to 31 August 2017.
Double rewards points can be earned on eligible accommodation, meeting and event bookings made during the aforementioned promotional period for up to US$20,000. Once this limit has been reached, earning rate will revert back to 3 IHG Rewards Club points per US$1.
- Spend US$2,000 and receive 12,000 IHG Rewards Club Points
- Spend US$20,000 and receive 120,000 IHG Rewards Club Points
- Spend US$50,000 and receive 210,000 (120,000 + 90,000) IHG Rewards Club Points
In addition to double points earned, members have the opportunity to reap richer rewards for high value bookings by earning an additional 35,000 supplementary points, with a minimum spending of US$20,000, on a single event or individual booking. There is no restriction on the number of high value bookings that can be made, and supplementary points will be received for each individual high value booking.
While most banks in Singapore allow you to convert your points (or equivalent currency) earned from credit card spend into Airline or Hotel points, Citibank has one of the most comprehensive list of points transfer partners - I have previously counted the total number of partners to be at 12 but they have apparently removed Delta Skymiles from the list. There are currently 11 airline points transfer partners for Citibank if you hold an eligible credit card in Singapore.
As the Q2 IHG Accelerate promotion is coming to an end on 31 August 2017, it is now possible to get in early and register for the upcoming Q3 Accelerate promotion (valid for stays between 01 September 2017 to 31 December 2017) for a chance to earn a lot of points. In case you do not remember what this promotion is, it is basically a set of tasks that are tailored to your IHG Rewards Club account based on stay history and elite status. Completing these tasks will trigger an achievement bonus (which is usually quite impressive) that could potentially earn you a lot of IHG Rewards Club points!
Purchase at least 10,000 Bonus Points with the World of Hyatt program and get 40% more points between now and 9 August 2017. Members are allowed to purchase up to 55,000 Bonus Points each calendar year and they are priced at USD 24 (SGD 33) per block of 1,000 points. Taking advantage of this promotion will reduce the rate to approximately USD 17 (SGD 24) which can potentially be of great value if you use it wisely.
Earn up to 3x Le Club AccorHotels Points when you stay in an eligible property across Asia-Pacific from 10 June 2017 to 10 September (registration is absolutely necessary). These bonus points are awarded in addition to the Rewards Points and Status Points that are usually earned by the Le Club AccorHotels member. As I have covered previously, the Le Club AccorHotels loyalty program gives a certain percentage of cashback in terms of points and this can go as high as 8.8% if you are a Platinum member. With this promotion, you may be eligible for up to 18.8% cashback as a Platinum member!
Robertson Quay in Singapore is getting pretty exciting - the InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay is already taking reservations from 01 September 2017 (just in time for the F1 Night Race!). It seems like the property has already started to offer a special Ambassador 4,000 Bonus Points package (S$14++ above Best Flexible Rate) for stays from 01 September 2017 - these are great if you have to purchase a flexible rate but want to achieve your IHG Rewards Club elite status faster (they count towards elite-qualifying points).
Accruing points and miles is therapeutic - I would even go as far to say that it is even more satisfying that watching your savings grow. From now until 19 May 2017, benefit from 100% bonus IHG Rewards Club points when you purchase using this link. If you were to purchase the maximum number of points allowed (60,000) in a calendar year, you will get 120,000 IHG Rewards Club Points (after the 100% bonus) for US$690 (S$963) which may offer great value at a number of InterContinental properties in the region.
Now that Starwood Hotels and Resorts is part of the greater Marriott International portfolio, it would make sense to view the brands simultaneously (especially since you get reciprocal elite benefits across SPG, Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards now). For stays between 27 May 2017 and 4 September 2017, be sure to register for Marriott Rewards' MegaBonus and SPG's Take Three promotion to maximise on the upcoming stays. If you do not have any status with any program, remember you can get SPG Gold (and therefore Marriott Rewards Gold) with just one stay if you have a World MasterCard issued in Asia-Pacific!
The new UOB Rewards portal is beautiful and it is a huge step-up from the older UOB Rewards Plus portal. While trying to redeem some KrisFlyer Miles however, I realised that the new portal only allows you to redeem up to a maximum of 9 units - obviously with a per-transaction fee of S$25, I would want to maximise the number of miles that I am redeeming for to suit my travel requirements.
If you have been following the website long enough, you would notice that I stay in hotels quite a bit - I see it as a platform to earn more miles (since most of the payments happen online) and more importantly, it is a way to retain my loyalty status(es) each year. What a lot of people do not realise however is that most credit cards (with the exception of Citibank) in Singapore allow you to convert your points into Asia Miles (read about the program HERE!) and KrisFlyer Miles only. I have recently fallen in love with the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account - you can fly on Japan Airlines' Business Class from Singapore to Tokyo, have a complimentary stopover, and then continue to somewhere else in Asia (e.g. Bangkok or Jakarta).
New Accelerate offers are up and you can now sign-in to see what your offers are for the upcoming quarter (15 May 2017 to 31 August 2017) ahead! In case you do not know what they are, they are basically a set of challenges that are tailored to your IHG Rewards Club account based on stay history and elite status. Completing these tasks will trigger an achievement bonus (which is usually quite impressive) that will earn you a lot of IHG Rewards Club points!
