The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) introduced Business Rewards back in 2015 which allows users and professionals to be rewarded for booking accommodations as well as meeting spaces for others. The Double Play Double Points promotion which is currently running (between 01 January 2017 and 15 April 2017) allows users to earn up to 6 IHG Rewards Club points (instead of 3) per US$1 for events and stays up to 31 August 2017.
Double rewards points can be earned on eligible accommodation, meeting and event bookings made during the aforementioned promotional period for up to US$20,000. Once this limit has been reached, earning rate will revert back to 3 IHG Rewards Club points per US$1.
- Spend US$2,000 and receive 12,000 IHG Rewards Club Points
- Spend US$20,000 and receive 120,000 IHG Rewards Club Points
- Spend US$50,000 and receive 210,000 (120,000 + 90,000) IHG Rewards Club Points
In addition to double points earned, members have the opportunity to reap richer rewards for high value bookings by earning an additional 35,000 supplementary points, with a minimum spending of US$20,000, on a single event or individual booking. There is no restriction on the number of high value bookings that can be made, and supplementary points will be received for each individual high value booking.
IHG Rewards Club has been running a number of Book Direct offers for the last couple of years to offer bonus IHG Rewards Club points for members who book directly - this is to minimise commission paid to OTAs like Expedia. This year, IHG Rewards Club members will once again have the chance to earn up to 70,000 bonus points for simply completing three eligible stays before the end of 31 December 2018 - you get 1,000 bonus points for simply signing-up!
There is finally a worthy promotion for the World of Hyatt program - all eligible members will be able to earn up to 1,000 bonus World of Hyatt points per night for eligible night between 15 February 2018 to 15 May 2018 (you will have to checkout before the end of this promotional period.
In celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year ahead, Chope is giving you the opportunity to earn 100 more Chope-Dollars on your next reservation. More importantly, it is allowing you to use some of your Chope-Dollars for a chance to win extra Chope-Dollars (yes, pretty much like gambling really), Shopee credits, Chope Shop credits as well as S$88 Cash - unfortunately bonus KrisFlyer Miles is not one of the prizes though.
Purchase at least 5,000 Starpoints from now until 16 March 2018 to benefit from a 35% discount. As you may remember, all Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) member may purchase up to 30,000 Starpoints each calendar year and the account must be opened for at least 14 days before you are able to purchase or receive Starpoints
Using Chope for restaurant reservations is one of the easiest and smartest ways of doing so - you will also be able to earn Chope-Dollars (C$) with each fulfilled reservation and redeem them for dining vouchers as well as KrisFlyer miles! If you do not already have a Chope account, you should definitely sign-up for one as there are no costs involved in signing-up or using the platform. If like me, you have C$ to redeem, Chope is currently running a promotion (I do not believe it is targeted) to offer everyone a 200 C$ promo code (to be utilised on the next visit) when they redeem their C$ by 12 March 2018.
Hilton Honors have undergone some changes back in 2017 where members are allowed to pool their Hilton Honors Points with up to ten members for free. Come April 2018, there will once again be changes to the Hilton Honors program to reward members who stay more often with unlimited milestone bonuses. Additionally, members who hit a number of calendar nights will be able to gift Gold and Diamond status to a fellow member.
When you have memberships across different loyalty programs, it is always a good idea for you to keep track of it (manually or otherwise). I have previously written about AwardWallet which is free to use (but premium features can only be unlocked when you make a contribution) and today I just wanted to mention how useful it actually is because I actually discovered that my account got hacked through this very platform - 339,500 points were gone!
There will be some upcoming changes to the number of IHG Rewards Club points required for a Reward Night this year. Additionally, a higher category of hotels will be introduced and these properties will be priced at 70,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night - this is 10,000 more points than the highest requirement of 60,000 points right now.
The beginning of every new year comes with a multitude of decisions that I have to make and one of them is essentially deciding the number of loyalty programs that I will endeavour to retain elite status with. The InterContinental Ambassador membership is an easy decision to make - it requires zero effort (even though I do stay in InterContinental properties throughout the year) and it simply requires USD 150 to renew each year (USD 200 for the first year). The benefits of being an InterContinental Ambassador can easily pay itself off in one stay and I highly recommend anyone with plans to stay in an InterContinental property to consider purchasing this membership.
If you have an existing Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) with Emirates Skywards account linked, you may be targeted for an exclusive opportunity to earn bonus Starpoints. While I have not stayed in many Starwood properties this year and I have not flown on EK in 2017, my account was targeted with an offer to earn up to 5,000 bonus Starpoints after completing three eligible stays.
