Assuming you have zero Mileage Plan miles (why would we in this part of the world?!), you can essentially purchase it outright and redeem them for that 7,000 miles flight in no time - this is how much it would cost:

Single Passenger

US$550 (Cost of Miles)
+ US$41.25 (Tax Recovery Fee)
+ US$64 (Applicable Taxes)
+ US$12.50 (Partner Award Fee)
= US$667.75

Two Passengers

US$990 (Cost of Miles)
+ US$74.25 (Tax Recovery Fee)
+ US$128 (Applicable Taxes)
+ US$25 (Partner Award Fee)
= US$1,217.25 (US$608.63 per passenger)

Purchase Mileage Plan with 40% Bonus

It would essentially be cheaper to travel with a friend since you will be able to benefit from a higher rate of discount when purchasing Mileage Plan miles now - only 25,000 miles are required each way so you only need to purchase 20,000 miles (which gives you 26,000 miles with 30% bonus) if you are traveling alone. If you are traveling with a friend, purchasing 36,000 miles (50,400 miles with 40% bonus) will give you enough for two redemption award tickets.

The example above maximises the flight time and is in no way a restriction on the routes you can actually take - it is definitely possible if you wish to fly from Singapore and head down to Shanghai via Tokyo instead. Besides with the upcoming devaluation in KrisFlyer miles, this could very well be a trip to consider. Complimentary stopover in Tokyo can also be added (even on one-way award redemption) if you wish to spend a few nights in Japan - you can also create an open jaw redemption if that is something you are after.
