Now we all know that accruing miles is all about playing the long game. Cashback cards offer instant gratification (at the end of each statement period) but mileage cards require you to accrue enough before reaping in the rewards. Now the brand new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card looks great - it offers 15 KrisFlyer Miles per S$5 (equivalent to 3 miles per dollar) on eligible expenses made with the Singapore Airlines Group. It also allows you to earn 'Accelerated Miles' (same accrual rate as above) in important categories like dining, online shopping, online travel as well as transport card transactions. Now the only caveat is this - all the 'Accelerated Miles' will only post AFTER your card's membership year. This means to say that you will only expect to see your bonus miles next year!
Before anyone gets confused, base miles will post as per normal and they will be automatically deposited into your KrisFlyer account (much like how the American Express Singapore Airlines co-branded cards work right now). Bonus miles earned from making eligible transactions with the Singapore Airlines Group will also post normally - they will be in your KrisFlyer account within one calendar month from the date of transaction. However, the 'Accelerated Miles' that you earn from dining, online shopping, online travel as well as transport card transactions will only post within 2 months from the end of your card's membership year.
|Month||Singapore Airlines Spend||Spend in 'Accelerated' Categories||Base Miles||Bonus Miles||Accelerated Miles|
Consider the example above where you spend S$1,000 each calendar month for every single month in your card’s calendar year. The bonus points (‘Accelerated Miles’) earned from spending S$12,000 across the card’s calendar year which works out to 21,600 (S$12,000 x 1.8) KrisFlyer Miles will only post by June 2020 next year! The 14,400 base miles that you earn from this S$12,000 spend will post after each calendar month.
