Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan to Extend Elite Status for A Year and Carry Forward EQMs to 2021

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has just announced that they will be extending the current status of all members by a year, through 31 December 2021. Additionally, all elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) that have been earned between 01 January to 30 April 2020 will be rolled over to 2021 (great move!) to give members a headstart on earning status in 2022.

Even though I am based in Singapore, I use the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program quite frequently and I typically credit all my revenue flights in Business Class on Singapore Airlines to this programs as it allows me to earn miles and status on Mileage Plan, as well as PPS Value on Singapore Airlines (essentially a double-dip). MVP and MVP Gold members will be able to earn more EQMs in coming months ahead to further boost their status in 2021. Current MVP Gold 75K members who will receive a one-year status extension will not receive the 50,000 bonus miles automatically but there will be additional opportunities to unlock this reward in months to come. Additionally, members who started a status match challenge between 01 December 2019 and 31 March 2020 will now have the challenge criteria waived - the matched status will be valid through 31 December 2021.

You might remember that Alaska Airlines will be joining oneworld in 2021 so having your Mileage Plan elite status extended in 2021 means you will most likely enjoy the following oneworld statuses based on your current Mileage Plan status:

  • MVP = oneworld Ruby

  • MVP Gold = oneworld Sapphire (Business Class Lounge Access)

  • MVP Gold 75K = oneword Emerald (First Class Lounge Access)

Additionally, all companion certificates that are set to expire in 2020 will be extend - you now have until 31 December 2020 to purchase new travel through 26 November 2021.
