InterContinental Penang Resort to Open Along Glowing Bay in 2025
The IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) will be expanding the brand’s portfolio with the opening of the InterContinental Penang Resort in 2025 which will welcome guests to the Glowing Bay in Teluk Bahang. The property will be transformed from the existing Penang Mutiara Beach Resort at Teluk Bahang and it will create a haven for couples and families whilst redefining luxury beach tourism for Penang.

Guests staying at the InterContinental Penang Resort will be able to enjoy convenient access to the Teluk Bahang Fishing Village, Penang National Park, and the Penang Tropical Spice Garden, while enjoying unobstructed views of the Malacca Straits featuring white sand beaches, clear emerald waters and a backdrop of lush mountainous forests for an unforgettable experience.
The InterContinental Penang Resort is located 30-minute (by car) away from central Georgetown and it will feature 355 rooms and suites with a private enclave of six villas for guests seeking a truly immersive stay amongst nature. The stay experience is complemented by a holistic wellness village which will house 10 treatment villas, a yoga studio, and a relaxation pavilion, all within a development surrounded by stunning Angsana trees that will be delicately preserved and protected during the construction process.
The hotel will attract a wide range of guests, from families and “bleisure” travellers to those attending weddings and events. Facilities include three swimming pools (including a kids pool), five restaurants and bars, 1,000 square metres of meeting and event space (including a glass marquee and private lawn for garden weddings and special occasions), and the brand’s world-renowned Club InterContinental Lounge offering views of the Straits of Malacca. InterContinental Penang Resort will be the second InterContinental hotel in Malaysia (after InterContinental Kuala Lumpur) and will bring IHG back to Penang, together with the upcoming Holiday Inn & Suites Penang Prai.
