Hotel Review: Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport (King Room with Pool View) - Great Value Property (on Points) near DPS Airport
While no one travels all the way to Bali just to stay near the Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), it is sometimes necessary to do so due to flight cancellations or even due to unforeseen trip disruptions. Bali is one of my favourite cities to visit and I have been to a dozen of properties over the years. On my latest trip to Bali, I booked a room at the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport to freshen up before moving to 'a real hotel' for the rest of my stay.

The Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is located approximately 500m away from the airport and while walking is not recommended, you can easily can a taxi or arrange transport to take you there for a couple of dollars. For this one-night stay, I redeemed only 5,000 Hilton Honors Points and as a Diamond member, I was accorded an upgrade to a King Room with Pool View.
To set the record straight, I do not recommend staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport if you are here on a vacation. While the hotel offers tremendous value on points, it is simply not the experience that most people come to Bali for (unless you are one of those people who think that the room is only for sleeping and that a bed is a bed). There is nothing much around the property but getting a GoJek account will allow you to order via GoFood, and have great-tasting food delivered to the hotel at an extremely reasonable price.
The room measures 30sqm in size and it comes with a 40-inch HDTV, a mini-fridge and a king-sized Serta bed which was slightly firmer than average. The design of the room is pretty basic but you will find most of what you require here - the light switches are functional without all the additional bells and whistles. If you are a light sleeper, you should take note that the doors and walls of this property are really thin so you can actually hear whatever is going on outside. There are a company D&D going on during my stay so the guests did get pretty rowdy and honestly, I could hear all their conversations from my room. As I have mentioned earlier, the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is really not a hotel where you will travel all the way to Bali for - it is simply for emergencies and mattress runs.
With all that being said, the rooms here at Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport do come with a handful of universal power outlets which make it easy for international guests. There is nothing more annoying that being unable to charge your devices immediately (and having to call someone to have some kind of adapter delivered) after spending the day traveling (especially if you are coming from another continent).
There is a small work desk here with an ergonomic chair that looks a lot like the one from Herman Miller but my gut tells me that it is a replica and not an original - I could be wrong. Considering the average price of rooms here, I cannot help but wonder how a property can offer an original Herman Miller in all guest rooms.
Basic coffee and tea-making facilities can be found in the room (no Nespresso machine, sorry) but if you do require a proper beverage, it might be a good idea to order it via GoJek and have it delivered to the hotel. Just take note that you might actually have to go down to the hotel lobby to collect it from the rider, instead of having it delivered all the way to your room. Many hotels (especially the luxury properties) do not allow GoJek riders up the lobby and guests are typically required to walk down to the main gate or entrance to collect it from the riders - this is due to food safety and security issues.
The bathrooms of the guest rooms here at Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport are fairly basic but you will get a small shower area (complete with a rain shower head) and a separate toilet on the other side. There seemed to be some drainage issue during my stay though as the water took a lot longer than expected to go down which was likely due to a clogged drain. Thankfully it was not too drastic and the water was gone after a couple of minutes.
Bulk-size amenities are now offered in guest rooms but they are unbranded and while Hilton Garden Inn properties generally offer the Crabtree & Evelyn by Hilton collection of shower and bath essentials, I am sure that whatever was inside these bottles was anything but that. Personal amenities like disposable shavers and toothbrushes were provided but you might wish to bring your own if you are particular about the quality of these products. Drinking water can also be found by the sink and the glass bottles can be opened using the fixed bottle opener near the sink.
As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I was given the option of either having 500 Hilton Honors points deposited into my account, or complimentary breakfast for the whole duration of my stay. Even though I was staying only for a single night, I went with the breakfast as I wanted to see what the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport offers to hotel guests. There are both indoor (not-airconditioned) and outdoor seatings available and I went with the latter option as the weather was actually pretty nice during my visit.
The outdoor areas of The Garden Grille at Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport also overlooks the infinity pool of the property which in all honesty, looks exceptional for a Category 1 property that requires only 5,000 points per night (or even less if you stack it with the 5th night free benefit or the upcoming global promotion). The outdoor landscaped pool also has multiple deck chairs located by the side which is great for guests looking to soak up the sun (this is especially important if you have had a flight cancellation or simply want to kill time before heading to the airport).
As expected the breakfast at Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport was pretty basic but a small menu (offering a la carte dishes) was offered during my visit - I went with the omelette which also comes with your choice of coffee, some pastries, as well as a small plate of fruits. The breakfast is really simple but I guess it does the job if you are extremely hungry and I really can’t fault it considering how the entire stay costs just 5,000 points (which you can easily earn in a paid stay).
The Hilton Garden Inn Bali Ngurah Rai Airport is fantastic at 5,000 points per night and if you are planning to stay here a little bit longer, the fifth-night free benefit for Hilton Honors members will bring the average cost per night down to just 4,000 points. If you are planning to stay only one night, you should plan on taking full advantage of the upcoming Double Your Stay global promotion (6 September 2022 to 31 December 2022). Hilton Honors members will be awarded 2,000 bonus points if the day of check-out falls on Monday through Friday - this means to say that if you were to redeem an award night on Sunday for 5,000 points, you will receive 2,000 points under the new global promotion and this brings your cost down to just 3,000 points per night (phenomenal value).

Used one of my Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs) at the W Osaka to secure a beautiful Marvelous Suite. The hotel is located on Midosuki Boulevard and within walking distance to Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori.
