The American Express Platinum Card Now Comes with up to S$1,204 of Statement Credits Each Year - Everything You Need to Know!

Back in November 2022, American Express revealed that the S$800 annual travel credits that Platinum Members get each year will be replaced with S$1,204 worth of statement credits spanning across Entertainment, Lifestyle, Airline, and Dining categories. At the time of writing, these new American Express offers are available for Platinum Members to save on the Amex app and online and they will be in effect until 31 December 2024 which means Platinum Members are stuck with these offers until then (i.e. it might change from 2025 but only time will tell).

If you are an existing Platinum Member who did not manage to utilise your S$800 annual travel credits, you might be out of luck as they expired on 30 January 2023. As mentioned earlier, the newly-revealed statement credit offers will be in effect through 31 December 2024 and most of the offers (with the exception of the Entertainment Credit) are capped per Calendar Year - this means to say that in the example of the Airline Credit, you will receive S$200 in 2023 if you spend at least S$600 in eligible transactions this year, and another S$200 in 2024 once you spend at least S$600 in eligible transactions for that year.

Up to S$1,204 in Statement Credits Per Year

The American Express Platinum Card (Feb 2023 to Dec 2024)

Entertainment Credit - up to S$17 Statement Credit per Calendar Month

The Platinum Entertainment Card Benefit will allow Platinum Members to enjoy up to S$17 in statement credits each calendar month from February 2023 to December 2024 when they spend across the following participating entertainment providers:

• Audible

• Disney+ (New)

• Eventbrite

• Netflix

• SPH Media

• Ticketmaster

If you are an existing Netflix subscriber, the Standard (S$17.48 per month) or Premium (S$21.98 per month) plans will trigger the full amount of the statement credit once you switch out your billing details to your American Express Platinum Card.

Lifestyle Credit - Spend S$600 or more in a Single Transaction to Receive S$400 Statement Credit per Calendar Year

In order to trigger the Lifestyle Credit of S$400, you will have to spend a minimum of S$600 in a single transaction online or in person at one of the following participating lifestyle brands:

• Adeva Spa

• Follicle at Adeva

• Spa Rael

• The Ultimate

• The Spa by The Ultimate

• Grand Cru Wine Concierge (from 6 February 2023)

Personally, this would likely be the most difficult statement credit to trigger as it requires you to spend a good amount of money at one of the lifestyle (read: spa and wellness) brands in a single transaction. The American Express Platinum Card comes with a number of vouchers each year for the aforementioned lifestyle brands so it is unclear at this stage whether or not those vouchers will be discontinued for members following the introduction of this lifestyle credit but my personal opinion is that those will continue but the discounted treatment rates will not trigger statement credit so you will have to plan it out carefully.

Airline Credit - Spend S$600 or more in a Single or Multiple Transaction(s) to Receive S$200 Statement Credit per Calendar Year

Platinum Members will receive S$200 in statement credits when they spend S$600 or more, in one or more transactions, in-app or online at Singapore Airlines or Scoot. This is a pretty easy statement credit to offer as I generally use The American Express Platinum Card to pay for the tax component on my Singapore Airlines redemption flights as I get to enjoy the relatively comprehensive Platinum Travel Insurance on my trips. As a quick reminder, you will earn 5 Membership Rewards points for every full S$1.60 (works out to 1.95 miles per dollar) spent on Singapore Airlines and Scoot directly.

Dining Credit - Get up to S$400 Statement Credit per Calendar Year on Local Dining Spend (S$200) and Overseas Dining Spend (S$200) across Participating Restaurants

Simply use The American Express Platinum Card across over 1,400 restaurants in 20 countries to receive up to S$400 in statement credits per calendar year. There are currently 27 local restaurants where Platinum Members can enjoy this benefit at the time of writing and there is also the opportunity to double-dip on promotions for some restaurants like Si Chuan Dou Hua (UOB Plaza) where you can enjoy up to 50% off the total food bill, and also up to 7.91 miles per dollar when you spend at participating Platinum 10Xcelerator Partners like Zorba at The Riverhouse.

The S$400 statement credit for dining will be split into local and foreign dining spend - Platinum Members will only be able to enjoy up to S$200 statement credit for local dining spend and another S$200 statement credit for overseas dining spend across global participating restaurants.
