Hotel Review: TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 (TRIBE Studio) - Affordable Modern Property Within Walking Distance to Phrom Phong BTS Station

I usually prefer staying at hotels that participate in the World of Hyatt or Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programs since I value the elite perks they offer, such as lounge access and guaranteed 4:00 PM late checkout. However, as I’ve already retained my Globalist and Platinum Elite statuses in these programs, I decided to diversify my stays and explore Accor properties. On a recent trip to Bangkok, I stayed at a TRIBE hotel for the first time, drawn by its convenient location near the Phrom Phong area, which is one of my personal favorites.

While TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 promotes itself as being within walking distance of the Phrom Phong BTS Station, it’s important to note that the walk takes about 12-15 minutes. Parts of the route are unpaved, which might be challenging for those with mobility issues. However, if you’re used to walking and are generally healthy, this shouldn’t pose a problem. For added convenience, the hotel operates an hourly shuttle service to EmQuartier, which is directly connected to the Phrom Phong BTS Station, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily.

As an Accor Plus member, I was able to secure an excellent rate for this stay at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39, averaging just THB 1,500 per night before taxes. Room rates naturally fluctuate based on demand, but Accor Plus members gain access to exclusive Red Hot Rooms rates, which can be incredibly appealing if your travel dates align. Although I originally booked a TRIBE Extra room, I was generously upgraded by two categories to a TRIBE Studio, thanks to my Accor Live Limitless (ALL) Platinum status. During check-in, I was also offered a late checkout, informed about my complimentary breakfast benefits, and reminded of my complimentary drink vouchers, which were easily accessible through the ALL app.

The TRIBE Studios at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 are approximately 28 sqm in size and come equipped with a fully-functional kitchenette and a comfortable double bed. While my originally booked room type, the TRIBE Extra, also offers the same 28 sqm of space, it lacks both the kitchenette and a laundry machine.

As someone who tries to fit in multiple workouts a day during my trips, having a laundry machine is a game changer—it allows me to quickly refresh my workout gear. Laundry pods are easy to find at nearby supermarkets, and as an added bonus, they’re often more affordable in Bangkok compared to Singapore for the same brands.

Although I did not use the induction cooktops during my stay, I did take full advantage of the microwave to heat up snacks I grabbed from a nearby 7-11. While Bangkok offers a wealth of incredible dining options—and the Phrom Phong area alone is a food lover's paradise—sometimes nothing hits the spot quite like a ham and cheese sandwich or a packet of spicy chicken bites after a late night out with friends.

Living Area

The TRIBE Studio I was assigned to at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 had a relatively small window, so it wasn’t particularly bright during the day. There’s a cozy two-seater setup by the window that doubles as a dining area, which I found quite conducive for getting work done. However, one drawback is the lack of nearby power outlets. You’ll need to stretch a cable across the room from the outlets by the bedside or the kitchenette, which can be a bit inconvenient if you’re trying to focus on work for an extended period. Alternatively, you could head down to the TRIBE Table, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. It offers ample natural daylight, a more vibrant atmosphere, and a menu of affordable food and drinks—made even better if you’re an Accor Plus member.

My room at the TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 offered a nice view. While I didn't spot any major landmarks, it was still pleasant to look out over some greenery and an unobstructed horizon, rather than being stuck with a blocked view.

ALL Platinum Welcome Amenity

I also received a small gift of chocolate pralines, which I suspect was a perk tied to my ALL Platinum status. While it wasn't an extravagant gesture, it's always a nice touch to receive some recognition, especially at more budget-friendly properties like TRIBE Hotels.

At first glance, the interiors of the TRIBE Studio are visually appealing, but it’s hard to overlook the fact that the furnishings feel somewhat cheap and lower in quality. That said, my expectations weren't particularly high given the affordable average nightly rate of THB 1,500. It wouldn’t be fair to compare this property to luxury hotels like the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, which cater to an entirely different market segment.

On a positive note, the bed in the TRIBE Studio was exceptionally plush and comfortable, providing a great night's sleep. I also appreciated that the air-conditioning functioned flawlessly—cooling the room quickly and maintaining a perfectly chilled temperature for a restful night.

Bathroom

I was pleasantly surprised to find a deep-soaking tub in the TRIBE Studio, which also serves as the shower's wet area. However, those with mobility issues might find it challenging to use, as the tub is quite high and requires stepping over to get in. The water pressure from the shower was quite decent, but I did notice that the water temperature occasionally fluctuated. One moment you could be enjoying a nice warm shower, and the next, you’re suddenly hit with a burst of cold water.

The bath amenities are from the Australian brand KEVIN.MURPHY, and I found the fragrance to be pleasant, even though I’m not personally familiar with the brand. Disposable personal items like razors and toothbrushes are also provided, though I noticed they weren’t replenished during my stay, even after housekeeping serviced the room each morning—possibly as part of a commitment to sustainability and reducing waste?

Breakfast Buffet Spread
TRIBE Table - TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39

Breakfast is served at TRIBE Table, a restaurant designed with a California-inspired theme that emphasizes bright and fresh flavors. Located on the same level as the swimming pool, the restaurant offers a vibrant dining space. I really like how much natural daylight the restaurant enjoys and there are little nooks and spaces that are suitable for those looking to get some work done during the day - the restaurant was also relatively quiet during the day which is great if you do not wish to be distracted.

Although my room rate at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 did not include breakfast, I was entitled to it as a complimentary benefit of my ALL Platinum membership. TRIBE Table can accommodate up to 196 diners but it is worth noting that the breakfast spread was relatively basic, yet perfectly adequate for a property of this caliber. In fact, it outshines the breakfast offering at Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit, which costs nearly three times as much on an average day—making it a far better value in comparison.

Although my stay at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 was only four nights, I noticed that the breakfast selection didn’t vary much from day to day. Guests can order eggs cooked to their preference by filling out an order sheet or simply making a request to one of the restaurant staff. However, the breakfast experience leans more towards being a quick and convenient meal rather than a lavish spread that you’d be eager to wake up early for.

Outdoor Swimming Pool

The outdoor swimming pool, located just next to TRIBE Table, is a real standout—especially from certain angles, making it highly 'Instagrammable.' I made sure to take a dip during my stay, and it was quite enjoyable. However, it’s more of a leisurely pool than one suited for serious laps. I also appreciated the day beds and seating areas around the pool, perfect for relaxing with a good book or sipping on a glass of wine during the day.

Fitness Centre
TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39

The fitness centre at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is well-equipped, featuring a squat rack, three benches, a wide range of dumbbell weights, and various fitness equipment and cardio machines. Additionally, there is a spa, operated by an external tenant, located on the same floor as the gym. This proximity struck me as an interesting choice, given that gyms are often associated with louder environments. The spa’s pricing is also quite reasonable, making it a convenient option if you prefer not to venture out for treatments.

Bangkok is an excellent destination for international tourists, offering not only incredible food and welcoming locals but also a wide selection of quality hotels to suit various budgets. Whether you are looking for luxury or something more affordable, you can be sure to find a great option. While I enjoyed my stay at TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39, it is best suited for those who prefer a more budget-friendly option. The hotel's proximity to Phrom Phong BTS Station is a notable advantage. However, the slightly longer walk from the station may make it less convenient compared to other properties, such as Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 (which, though more expensive, offers easier access). That said, for travelers seeking great value in a well-priced hotel, TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is certainly a recommendation I would make.
