While I do believe that the ultimate gold should be to redeem your miles on the pointy end of the aircraft, KrisFlyer Elite Gold (and Star Alliance Gold) is a great benefit to have when you have flights in Economy Class. Similar to PPS Club status, this benefit is only the most useful while traveling in Economy or Premium Economy Class (since you will get most of the aforementioned benefits in First Class and Business Class). With that said, being able to achieve that with just S$12,500 spent on the American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card in four months is pretty attractive for those looking for a fast track to KrisFlyer Elite Gold.
