InterContinental Singapore Rebrands to Bugis, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore in 2026

The rumour mill has been churning for months regarding the fate of the InterContinental Singapore, and it is now official: the Grand Dame of Bugis is bidding farewell to IHG Hotels & Resorts. Starting January 2026, the property will officially join the Marriott International portfolio, rebranding as Bugis, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore.

This marks a significant shift in Singapore's hospitality landscape. For decades, the hotel has been the crown jewel of IHG in Singapore. For Marriott Bonvoy members, however, this is fantastic news, adding a high-end heritage property to an already impressive (and growing) local lineup.

The hotel is owned by Frasers Hospitality, and the decision to switch operators comes as the management contract with IHG expires on 31 December 2025. While rebrands often bring about total closures for renovation, the property is expected to remain operational during the transition. The new name, Bugis, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore, leans heavily into its location within the arts and heritage district, a hallmark of The Luxury Collection brand, which focuses on "indigenous" experiences. According to the official property page, which has arguably gone live a little early, the hotel will retain its 406 guestrooms and suites, along with its key dining concepts.

For IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite members, this is a blow. The InterContinental Singapore was a reliable spot for burning points and using Confirmable Suite Upgrades. Losing this flagship property leaves IHG loyalists with fewer luxury options in the city centre, forcing them to choose the voco Orchard Singapore or Holiday Inn properties for central stays. For Marriott Bonvoy elite members, it is unclear whether the club lounge will be maintained, and if so, whether Platinum Elite and higher members will enjoy complimentary access on eligible stays.

The transformation of the InterContinental Singapore into Bugis, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Singapore represents one of the most significant hospitality shake-ups in recent memory. Having stood as a stalwart of the Bugis precinct for decades, the property is not merely famous - it is an institution. For many of us who have grown up with the 'InterCon' as a definitive landmark, shedding that identity will take some getting used to; it will certainly be difficult to call it by any other name after all these years.
