As the year comes to an end, it is important to remember that you will only earn Starpoints on Uber if you have had a qualifying stay in the calendar year. If like me, you use Uber on a daily basis, it is best to get your stay in as early as possible in January 2016. You should definitely take advantage of the SPG® Take Two promotion which gives you double Starpoints® when you stay two nights or more (plus 250 bonus Starpoints for every night you stay at hotels in popular destinations, worldwide from 11 January 2016 to 30 April 2016.
Two qualifying nights at every participating Starwood hotel around the world will earn you double Starpoints but the following hotels in Singapore will give you a bonus of 250 extra Starpoints per night:
- Sheraton Towers Singapore
- The St. Regis Singapore
- The Westin Singapore
- W Singapore - Sentosa Cove
Considering how affordable the Sheraton Towers Singapore is on weekends, it may not be a bad idea for a mattress run to chalk up on points (especially if you need them!).
Hilton Honors (read all about the recent changes HERE) is currently running a 100% bonus on Hilton Honors Points with a minimum purchase of 5,000 Hilton Honors Points. Using these points effectively can essentially cover your stays in properties like the Hilton Tokyo and the Conrad Tokyo where a room may be expensive in dollars but reasonable as a redemption night.
The Le Club AccorHotels loyalty program went through some changes earlier this year and like I have mentioned multiple times before, the points that you accrue on this program will essentially offset your future stays - there is no fixed rate of redemption for rooms but the points have a fixed value that is tied to the Euro currency (2,000 Le Club AccorHotels Points = €40).
Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is currently running a sale that offers up to 30% off Starpoints - if you live in Asia-Pacific and do not have Gold Elite status with the program, you can find out how to fast track to Gold Elite in just one stay. Once you have your status, you can link it to your Marriott Rewards account to give you Gold Elite and that will in turn give you guaranteed lounge access at all participating properties.
IHG Rewards Club points are great because you can use them for decent reward nights and a bunch of other less valuable redemption (that you should not even consider) - they can also be converted into miles (largely at a 1000:200 ratio) which can be quite useful if you are converting to one that is potentially of greater value (e.g. Mileage Plan on Alaska Airlines). While I have previously considered reward nights in Singapore to be of inferior value, certain properties around Singapore (in a 7-8 hour flight radius) can offer pretty great value. For the purpose of comparison, I am using only the Best Flexible Rate which could potentially introduce bias in resort locations (these properties generally have a larger Advance Purchase discount).
One of my challenges in this quarter's Accelerate 2017 (read more about it HERE!) is to book a stay on the Points and Cash rate - this will give me 3,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points. While 3,000 bonus points will not sway my decision at all, it does count towards triggering the major bonus of the Accelerate 2017 promotion. Club members will receive 5% discount on the cash component on Points & Cash bookings while Spire Elite members can save up to 15% off.
From now until 17 February 2017, get double IHG Rewards Club Points when you purchase them online (so long you purchase at least 5,000 points). If you have a DBS Woman's World MasterCard, you can make use of this opportunity to rake up some bonus miles.
In order to provide members with a more generous and seamless travel experience, AccorHotels and Qatar Airways (the national carrier of the State of Qatar) has come together to offer members of their respective loyalty programs - Le Club AccorHotels and Qatar Airways Privilege Club - the option to convert miles to points and vice versa.
I wrote about the ability to search for award space on most major airlines with ExpertFlyer previously. While that was impressive enough, did you know that you can actually check out the seat map on any given flight with ExpertFlyer too? I'm not talking about the seat configurations that you can get from SeatGuru but I am actually talking about the availability of seats on a given flight - you can see which seats are taken and which are not!
Hilton is finally removing the extra 'H' from its award-winning loyalty program - the newly-branded Hilton Honors (yes with one 'H' now) will feature a number of changes to the way points can be utilised for award nights. The changes seem to be largely positive at this point but time will tell when the full details of the newly-revamped program are launched. Here is a summary of the upcoming changes.
The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) introduced Business Rewards back in 2015 which allows users and professionals to be rewarded for booking accommodations as well as meeting spaces for others. The Double Play Double Points promotion which is currently running (between 01 January 2017 and 15 April 2017) allows users to earn up to 6 IHG Rewards Club points (instead of 3) per US$1 for events and stays up to 31 August 2017.
