I have always been a huge fan of Uber because when they first started out, they were so much better than Grab but truth to be told, Grab (and its fleet of cars and drivers) has improved dramatically over the years. With that being said however, Uber has always been far more superior at customer service - they actually read and reply to your feedback at lightning speed! Starting from 01 July 2016 (Friday), you will be able to utilise uberPOOL to get around - this is a service for pooling people who are heading down to the same place to save time and cost (as well as the environment!). Why bother you ask? Well, it's going to be cheaper than the usual uberX rates!
If you do not have an Uber account, sign up using my referral code UBERWHALE for a free ride (up to S$10)!
Using uberPOOL is relatively simple - you proceed to make a regular uberX booking but when uberPOOL is available, you will be given the option to select the cheaper alternative - it does seem like the more seats you require, the more expensive it gets (but still cheaper than uberX).
Here's how it works according to Uber:
Choose the uberPOOL option in the app. Enter your destination and request a ride. You’ll see your driver’s details straight away — name, photo and the details of the car. As with uberX, these drivers are have undergone an extensive screening process. uberPOOL will then match you with another passenger heading in the same direction:That passenger will either be in the car at the start of your trip, in which case you’ll see their name in advance; or Your driver will pick them up along the way, in which case Uber will notify you via the app. Whether you’re first or second into the car, Uber ensures that you’re never taken more than a few minutes out of your way. At the end of your trip, you’ll pay just like a normal Uber trip and receive an electronic receipt.
Sounds simple enough and I can't wait to try it out - oh and if you are sharing your uberPOOL experiences, be sure to leave an #uberPOOL hashtag for a chance to win some credits!
A partnership between Marriott International and Japan's leading lodging company, Mori Trust Group, has just announced the opening of five resort properties across Japan this summer - these resorts will be located in some of Japan's most scenic destinations and it will give access to lesser-known locations which include the picturesque lake area at the base of Mount Fuji to the Shuzenzi hot springs resort town situated in the Izu Peninsula.
The most prestigious resort in Nusa Dua of Bali, The St. Regis Bali Resort has just appointed Mr. Nico Alexander Braunwalder as the Hotel Manager of this luxurious property. Prior to this appointment, Nico was the Director of Food & Beverage at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka in Japan.
InterContinental Hotels Group has just unveiled the first Kimpton hotel to open outside of the Americas, in Europe - the Kimpton De Witt. The hotel has been fully transformed to reflect the bold and playful design of Kimpton while drawing inspiration for the Dutch heritage which is evident from the striking ‘living wall’ of vibrant florals and botanicals trailing the entrance. It marries the old and the new – a late 20th century building with architecture from the Dutch Golden Age – interlocking modern luxury and historical elegance.
Robertson Quay in Singapore is getting pretty exciting - the InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay is already taking reservations from 01 September 2017 (just in time for the F1 Night Race!). It seems like the property has already started to offer a special Ambassador 4,000 Bonus Points package (S$14++ above Best Flexible Rate) for stays from 01 September 2017 - these are great if you have to purchase a flexible rate but want to achieve your IHG Rewards Club elite status faster (they count towards elite-qualifying points).
The luxurious Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore has finally unveiled the brand new Tower Wing today on 16 May 2017 where guests will be able to experience a refreshed lobby, brand new rooms and suites, three new restaurant concepts as well as a revitalised Horizon Club lounge. Located in the heart of Orchard Road, the property is known for being an urban resort which is steeped in luxury and the finest quality.
The Conrad Centennial Singapore is probably Singapore's most impressive Hilton property. Consistent to the global brand standards for Conrad hotels, the rooms here in this property are spacious and whilst the facilities and furnishings are carefully maintained, the dated design is definitely in need of a refresh to reposition the property to be in line with newer Conrad hotels around the world. The Centennial Suites here at the Conrad Centennial Singapore are beautiful with plenty of living space - with that said, the layout of the suite has always been baffling to me. As I was 'window shopping' for hotel rooms this evening, I noticed that an announcement has been placed to notify future guests that the hotel will be undergoing progressive rejuvenation works from June 2017 and this is expected to complete by the end of January 2018.

Is Hilton's Best Price Guarantee truly being honoured and are they trying to buy time (in hopes that the lower rate(s) on third-party sites would disappear) by reviewing a site that was not previously submitted? How have your experiences with this BPG been?
