The savoury Chopped Salad with Smoked Turkey Ham and Cheddar Cheese is available in Azur's Festive Buffet during this period. Even though I am not a big salad eater myself, I absolutely loved this dish. It was filled with flavourful chunks of smoked turkey ham and delicious cheddar cheese. While it isn't exactly the healthiest salad around, it is definitely one of the tastiest! The Festive Apple and Pomegranate Salad with Crushed Pecan Nuts (photographed and blurred out behind) pales in comparison as I thought the dressing was a little too heavy for a dish that is supposedly refreshing.
Once again found in Azur's Festive Buffet, the Pan Seared Scallop with Warm Butternut Squash and Arugula Salad is beautifully cooked with roe-on. The thing about quality seafood is that you do not have to drown the natural sweetness in a thick sauce. I thought that the butternut squash was an ingenious move as it provides texture and naturally improves the sweetness of the scallops which were cooked through perfectly.
The Sweet Potato and Marshmallow Gratin can also be found in Azur's Festive Buffet at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. Not to confused with pumpkin and halloween, this dish is an interesting combination of natural (from the sweet potato) and constructed (from the marshmallow) flavours. I was not personally impressed with this dish as I do not generally like sweet food but I can definitely see this as a dish where kids (and the young at heart) will enjoy.
Likewise the Buttered Winter Vegetables were pretty ordinary but I did like the colours which I am sure will make a beautiful photo when coupled with the right meats.
Speaking of meats, no Christmas Dinner (or Thanksgiving Dinner) is complete without a beautifully roasted turkey. This Christmas, indulge in a Festive Baked Turkey with Angelica Root. This Asian-inspired turkey comes with sweet corn, "Mei Cai" (preserved vegetables) and blood sausage stuffing. It is served with a cranberry & orange marmalade as well as natural jus. This has got to be one of the most tender turkey I have ever tasted in my life. I also thought that the Asian flavour was an interesting twist and rendition to the classic turkey roast. This turkey (which is available for takeaway) may very well impress your more traditional grandparents this Christmas!
Absolute meat lovers like myself will definitely love this beautifully cooked Prime Rib Eye of Beef. The beef is perfectly seasoned with provencal herbs, truffle salt and served with pommery mustard sauce. That being said, unless you are a great cook in the kitchen, I will highly recommend you to try this dish at Azur's Festive Buffet instead. The only complication really is that this item is not a permanent item on Azur's Festive Buffet so maybe it is a wise idea to call the restaurant beforehand to check. If you are highly confident of your skills, feel free to purchase this for S$255+ and take it home - it will definitely impress your guests!
