The craziness that followed the Starwood acquisition news saw Hyatt scrambling and offering Hyatt Diamond. While the hotel giant has previously accepted top tier statuses with competing programs like IHG Spire Elite, Hilton Diamond Elite, Marriott Platinum Elite and SPG Platinum Elite, the conditions of getting a status match have become more stringent over time.
I have submitted a status match to Hyatt Diamond using my Hilton Diamond Elite account and was given the following response:
Dear Mr. Chua,
I hope that this message finds you well.
It is my pleasure to inform you that we have upgraded your account to Platinum until February 2017. You will begin to enjoy the many benefits of the Platinum tier status such as guaranteed availability 72 hours prior to arrival, best room within the category booked, as well as 15% bonus points per stay among many other wonderful benefits.
You may maintain this tier going forward by completing 5 eligible stays or 15 qualifying nights between January 1 – December 31, 2016.
As part of a limited time special offer, we are currently matching elite status with peer programs to Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum status. At this time, the only way to achieve the Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond tier is to complete the normal earning criteria or to submit Starwood Preferred Guest information showing Platinum status, as well as 20 nights with SPG in the last 12 months.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Welcome to Hyatt Platinum!
While I do not blame Hyatt at all for matching me to Platinum, I am just pretty disappointed since it was offered but not carried through. On the other hand, kudos to Hilton for doing this right!

Every now and then Hilton Honors surprises everyone with a 50% off flash sale that runs for 72-hours. While it has always been the case to include all participating hotels from Japan, Korean and Guam, Hilton Honors has included selected hotels in Thailand as well as Maldives this time round. In order to take advantage of the maximum discount rate, you will have to be a Hilton Honors member (otherwise it is capped at 40%) and you should definitely sign-up for free if you are not since this enables you to earn valuable Hilton Honors Points! IHG Rewards Club is currently running the Double Points Plus More promotion (similar to the previous Accelerate promotions) which is valid for stays between 16 September 2018 to 16 December 2018. Part of the offer includes the ability to earn double IHG Rewards Club Points (calculated on Base Points) but that was previously capped at 15,000 bonus points for me. Now, IHG Rewards Club has made the earning potential unlimited - you will now earn double IHG Rewards Club Points until 31 December 2018 with no cap!

If you have not jumped on the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan bandwagon yet, it is not too late to do so but I definitely advise doing it as soon as possible since there is no telling when the Japan Airlines or Cathay Pacific deal would be pulled out. From now until 21 December 2018 , purchase Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles and get up to 50% more miles - this effectively reduces the cost per 1,000 miles from USD 29.56 (inclusive of tax recovery fee) to USD 19.71.
As if there is a better time to be an American Express cardholder - the promotions are constantly coming in and now the first 15,000 successful registered cards will be able to get S$150 back for spending S$500 at over 480 participating Marriott hotels in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand between now until 31 January 2019! In fact, every eligible cardholder will be able to earn this shocking cashback 10 times so you can essentially spend S$5,000 and get S$1,500 back! If you do not hold an American Express card, do consider applying for The Platinum Card which comes with a shocking annual fee but the perks are seriously impressive - read about my rationalisation here!
Etihad Airways is currently extending up to 10% off selected flights for eligible American Express Cardholders (The Platinum Card members are obviously eligible) until the end of 30 June 2019. This exclusive discount is applicable to selected flights in First, Business and Economy Class for travel until 30 June 2019.
Singapore Airlines unveiled KrisPay a number of months ago - this platform allows KrisFlyer members to convert their KrisFlyer miles into KrisPay miles which they can then use for everyday expenses like petrol, food, gadgets or phone bills just to name a few. New users will be able to earn 500 free KrisPay miles for simply logging in to KrisPay in the month of November 2018 for the first time.
