Wok Hei Specialties and the Treasured Flavours of Singapore at White Rose Cafe (York Hotel Singapore)

Update (07 November 2016): Treasured Flavours of Singapore now S$29++ (dishes increase from 22 to 25). Buffet is now available daily for lunch.

White Rose Cafe at York Hotel Singapore needs no introduction - it is home to the famous Penang Hawkers' Fare which happens three times a year. Executve Chef Charlie Tham has recently launched a brand new Wok Hei Specialties menu that showcases four local favourite dishes at S$15++ each. This special menu is only available between 01 October 2016 and 15 December 2016 so make sure you do not miss out on it!

Crispy Egg Noodle - Wok Hei Specialties

The Crispy Egg Noodle (S$15++) is one of my favourite dishes out of the four dishes from the special menu. The double-boiled stock in this noodles which is created from Chef Tham's treasure recipe goes really well with the crispy noodles and the dish is also topped generously with fresh prawns, sliced fish and vegetables.

Wok-Fried Crispy Bee Hoon with Sliced Beef - Wok Hei Specialties

If I had to pick a close second, the Wok-Fried Crispy Bee Hoon with Sliced Beef (S$15++) has to be it! The bee hoon that you see above has been pan-fried in a slow circular motion before strips of striploin beef and sauteed and drenched in a delicious velvety egg gravy.

The two other dishes that are part of this special Wok Hei Specialties menu include the Traditional Hokkien Mee (left) and the White Bee Hoon (right). I really enjoyed the Traditional Hokkien Mee that was cooked with pork liver, pork shoulder and clams for a delicious stock - pair this with freshly-cut red chilies for that added punch! White Rose Cafe's Wok Hei Specialties are available daily from 12PM to 1030PM and credit card discounts from UOB and DBS do apply.

TREASURED FLAVOURS OF SINGAPORE

Black Ink Sotong - Treasured Flavours of Singapore

As part of the media tasting, I also sampled some dishes from the Treasured Flavours of Singapore menu which is essentially a weekday lunch buffet that runs from 12PM to 230PM at just S$25++ per person (minimum 2 to dine). Honestly, this has got to be one of the most value for money buffets that I have been to (especially if you love local dishes from Singapore!). The Black Ink Sotong was hands down the best dish that I have sampled all night - I love how fragrant it was and that unexpected heat that followed was just impressive!

Fish Head Curry - Treasured Flavours of Singapore

If you are dining with one or two other friends, you will also receive half portion of the signature Fish Head Curry (whole fish head for four to seven diners). Seriously if you are dining with just one other person, this buffet lunch is ridiculously good value.

Chendol - Treasured Flavours of Singapore

Other notable dishes to watch out for include Sambal Sotong, Stir-fied Spicy Clams, Red Rice Wine Chicken, Deep-fried Ngoh Hiang with Pickles as well as desserts like Chendol and Ice Kachang. For reservations and enquiries, please visit www.yorkhotel.com.sg or call White Rose Cafe at (65) 6737 0511.

This was an invited Media Tasting session, though all views expressed are my own.
