Afternoon Tea at Axis Bar and Lounge (Mandarin Oriental, Singapore) - Great view of the iconic Marina Bay!

I've stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore multiple times (always for leisure) and I have dined at the newly-refreshed Melt Cafe on several occasions but even then, I have not had the pleasure of checking out the afternoon tea selection at the Axis Bar and Lounge. In case you do not already know, the afternoon tea menu changes on a monthly basis and for the month of June 2016, diners will be able to indulge in a carefully-curated list of canapes that is anchored around the use of berries.

Located on level four (same level as Melt Cafe), the Axis Bar and Lounge enjoys plenty of daylight and it boasts a pretty impressive view of the area - you will be able to see the iconic Marina Bay Sands and The Fullerton Hotel from the seats. I also love that there are different seating configurations that will be able to cater to different groups of diners. In fact, there is also a private dining area if you would like to hold something special.

The afternoon tea at Axis Bar and Lounge is available everyday from 3PM to 5PM. On weekends and public holidays however, there is an additional seating from 1230PM to 230PM. There is an extensive list of teas to choose from and generally you will get 6-courses with the afternoon tea sets (the 3-tier is counted as just one course!). For the first course, a refreshing Violet Berries Jelly with Crème Fraîche Emulsion.

As mentioned earlier, the menus do change from a month to month basis and for the month of June (2016), we were treated to a delightful array of canapes that primary features the use of berries (albeit not in every single piece!). My personal favourites were the Poached Lobster with Cilantro Aioli, the Truffle-scented Egg and Chives Sandwich and the Duck Rillette and Foie Gras with Raspberry Jam!

The Caramel Maple Walnut Scone was absolutely delicious on its own. Served warm and fluffy on the insides, this scone is definitely one to watch out for! Since I generally prefer savoury to sweet, I also thoroughly enjoyed the selection of hot canapes - the Cornish Lamb Pie as well as the Farm Butternut and Cranberry Pie - no prize for guessing which one I preferred!

Afternoon tea at the Axis Bar and Lounge ends off with an impressive 3-tier dessert stand. For the upcoming month of June (2016), be prepared to savour a refreshing selection of desserts. My personal favourite is the Lychee Strawberry Lemon Pound Cake. While it wasn't light like the mousse or anything, I love the subtle lychee flavours when complemented with the zesty lemon scent.

  • Blackberry Yoghurt Mousse
  • Pistachio Raspberry Macaroon
  • Lychee Strawberry Lemon Pound Cake
  • Summer Pudding Yoghurt Chantilly
  • Cherry Confit Mille-feuille
