Earn KrisFlyer Miles on Grab Rides - Singapore Airlines and Grab Partnership

Singapore Airlines and Grab has just announced a partnership that will provide customers with a more seamless travel experience moving forward. The mobile applications of both companies will feature integrated components to allow customers traveling to the airport in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to book a Grab ride easily. More importantly, users will also be able to redeem their GrabRewards Reward Points for KrisFlyer Miles!

Starting today, Singapore Airlines customers will be able to book Grab rides through the SingaporeAir mobile application - they will be able to see an option to book a ride to the airport across all six aforementioned countries seven days before their scheduled flight. The airport will be automatically listed as the destination, so the user simply fills in the pick-up point and desired time. In addition, the first 5,000 customers will receive GrabPay Credits worth $10 in their Grab account for bookings made through the SingaporeAir mobile app for Grab rides in Singapore.

To celebrate this exclusive partnership, users will be able to win a pair of Business Class tickets to Hong Kong (check out my experience on the A350 Business Class!) for every Grab ride they take between 09 October 2017 to 09 November 2017 - enter 'GRABSQ' as the promo code in the Grab app to take part. The customer with the most Grab rides booked during this period will win.

[Update 13 October 2017] GrabRewards Platinum members are now able to convert their GrabRewards Points into KrisFlyer Miles - miles redemption will open for all other members on 20 October 2017. Here are the conversion rates:

12,000 (11,000 for Platinum) GrabRewards Points = 1,000 KrisFlyer Miles

At the time of writing, Grab will double the number of miles awarded, giving GrabRewards Platinum members 2,000 KrisFlyer miles for 11,000 GrabRewards points and all other GrabRewards members 2,000 KrisFlyer miles for 12,000 GrabRewards points from now until 31 October 2017. Even at the maximum 16 points per S$1 earn rate, getting 1,000 KrisFlyer Miles (during a non-promotional period after 31 October 2017) will cost you approximately S$750 for normal members and if you value miles at 2 cents each, this is essentially 2.67% cash back. On the other hand, it is possible to get up to 4.44% cash back when you redeem for one of the options below - GrabRewards Catalogue currently lists ride discounts at the following rate: 

• S$5 off a Grab Ride - 2,200 Points
• S$10 off a Grab Ride - 4,200 Points (2,100 Points per S$5)
• S$15 off a Grab Ride - 6,000 Points (2,000 Points per S$5)
• S$20 off a Grab Ride - 7,400 Points (1,850 Points per S$5)
• S$25 off a Grab Ride - 9,000 Points (1,800 Points per S$5)
