After months of anticipation, SilkAir has finally unveiled the brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 today with improved seats, new sky interior (which changes colour according to the time of day) and quieter engines for greater comfort. SilkAir plans to retire the older Airbus A320s and A319s eventually and replace them with the newer Boeing 737-800s as well as the Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

The brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 will feature 12 Business Class and 144 Economy Class seats. At the time of writing, the seat pitch and width are not yet made available but I will definitely be updating it below once I have this information on hand so you can compare the different seat products in this handy table below:

SilkAir

Boeing 737 MAX 8 30 ? 49 ?
Boeing 737-800 30 17 34 18
Airbus A320-200 31 18 40 20
Airbus A319-100 31 18 40 20

The brand new SilkAir Boeing 737 MAX 8 is expected to serve Cairns, Darwin, Hiroshima, Hyderabad and Bengaluru which are some of the furthest cities that SilkAir operates flights to and that perfect sense as the 737 MAX 8 is supposed to be more fuel-efficient as well. However, it is highly possible that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 will be used for short-haul flights in coming weeks for familiarisation before being deployed on the longer-haul flights.

Passengers traveling in Economy Class will also get to enjoy a refreshed seat with aqua and light grey colours that are inspired by the cabin crew uniform. The seats as mentioned earlier, features 5 inches of recline and it comes fitted with modern day comforts like your very own USB socket so you remain connected to what matters most to you. You will also find an individual tablet (you will still have to bring your own device though) and phone-sized holders at the back of every seat.
