You can now buy United Airlines MileagePlus Miles and enjoy up to 100% bonus miles on eligible purchases made between now and 31 December 2017. It is important to check whether your account has been targeted with the 100% bonus (it has been for mine) and stacking this expense with the right credit card can present a double-dipping opportunity.
United Airlines MileagePlus Miles are typically sold at USD 35 per 1,000 block and if your account has been targeted with the 100% bonus promotion, you can essentially lower this cost to just USD 17.50 per 1,000 miles. Do note that you will have to purchase a minimum number of miles in order to trigger the 100% bonus (this may differ from account to account):
- Buy 5,000 - 19,000 miles | Get a 25% bonus
- Buy 20,000 - 39,000 miles | Get a 40% bonus
- Buy 40,000 - 69,000 miles | Get a 75% bonus
- Buy 70,000 - 75,000 miles | Get a 100% bonus
According to Tiffany from OMAAT, there are multiple ways to use United Airlines MileagePlus Miles effectively and one of which is to travel from Southeast Asia to Australia or New Zealand in the Royal Silk cabin of Thai Airways for simply 50,000 United Airlines MileagePlus Miles (this will cost around USD 940 (after the 7.5% tax recovery fee) one way. Remember Citibank Singapore is currently running a promotion with the PremierMiles Visa Signature card for 3.5 miles per dollar on all eligible foreign transactions charged between now and 31 January 2018 (minimum S$2,500 and capped at S$8,000) so make sure you stack these promotions.
