Up to 15% off Cash Component on Points & Cash Redemption on IHG
One of my challenges in this quarter's Accelerate 2017 (read more about it HERE!) is to book a stay on the Points and Cash rate - this will give me 3,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points. While 3,000 bonus points will not sway my decision at all, it does count towards triggering the major bonus of the Accelerate 2017 promotion. Receive up to 15% off the cash component of Points & Cash redemption if you book by 31 March 2017 and stay by 31 April 2017.
Club members will receive 5% discount on the cash component on Points & Cash bookings while Spire Elite members can save up to 15% off. I would usually only advocate the use of Points & Cash when you are obviously running low on IHG Rewards Club points and more importantly, on expensive properties. Here's what it looks like if you choose to use your precious IHG Rewards Club points on a relatively cheap property:
As you can see, the nightly rate for the Holiday Inn Resort Batam goes for just S$45.60++ a night - redeeming this for 20,000 points is a complete waste of points. In fact, check out the Points and Cash option - you would essentially be paying 10,000 IHG Rewards Club Points and US$70 (approximately S$100) for a partial redemption. Even with the discount, the cash component alone is already higher than booking the room outright. Essentially, your IHG Rewards Club Points have NEGATIVE value here!
On the other hand, if you redeem your IHG Rewards Club Points on a really expensive property like the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa where it is not uncommon to see villas going from US$926 (approximately S$1,315) a night, you can potentially get amazing value.
Stay three nights at the brand-new InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit for under S$620 with USD 100 property credit, complimentary breakfast, upgrade and guaranteed 2:00 PM late check-out.
