When I visited Tokyo back in May, I travelled back to Singapore on Japan Airlines - I have been flying JAL rather frequently (this was my fourth Business Class flight) this year since it costs a lot less to redeem my miles on it than on Singapore Airlines. More importantly, I have found the food served in Business Class on day flights to be comparatively better than Singapore Airlines (if you are picking the Japanese meal). With the first A350-900ULR due for delivery in September, Singapore Airlines has just officially announced the operation of non-stop flights between Singapore and Los Angeles from November this year. The flag carrier airline of Singapore has already announced the recommencement of the world's longest flight from Singapore to New York two months ago and together with this newly-announced service, Singapore Airlines will link Singapore and the US with 27 weekly non-stop flights by the end of 2018.
While I typically do advocate the use of airline miles for Business Class and First Class flights, I managed to snag up a pretty good deal on KLM Business Class flights for me to take my family down to Bali for a long weekend. On this trip, I booked the Business Class tickets for approximately S$500 per passenger (return-ticket) which is only a fraction of what Singapore Airlines charges (read about my Business Class experience from Singapore to Bali on Singapore Airlines here!) so that to me is a great deal! Qantas will be making a number of temporary schedule and equipment changes over the coming months to support their pilot training requirements. The twice-daily service between Perth and Singapore on the smaller Boeing 737 will be replaced by the larger A330-200 aircraft which features the new Business Suite as well as refurbished cabin interiors.
Starting from 01 July 2018, Business Class passengers on selected Singapore Airlines flights between Singapore and Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong can look forward to a new in-flight Chinese dining concept. The new three-course menus, known as Shi Quan Wei Mei (食全味美) are built upon the highly-acclaimed Shi Quan Shi Mei (十全食美) menus that are already available to Suites and First Class passengers on selected flights between Singapore and China.
After traveling from Orlando to New York, I connected in John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and made my way from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4. My previous flight was on Delta Air Lines First Class but since the airline does not have any interline agreement with Emirates, I had to collect my luggage in Terminal 2 before lugging my bags to Terminal 4 to check-in for my Emirates flight from New York to Dubai. For this flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo (Narita), I chose Seat 1K only to realise that it differs slightly from the 777-200ER which I took previously - this flight is operated on a Beoing 787-9 Dreamliner. In fact, the JA870J that I flew on was so new that the cabin products were not even retrofitted. Read about my Business Class experience on Japan Airlines’ SKY SUITE III product!
You should know the drill by now - 30% off required KrisFlyer Miles to selected destinations on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir in July 2018 with the latest episode of Spontaneous Escapes. There may not be any public holidays in July but if you are thinking about a weekend escape, you will be able to travel in style (and by style I mean Business Class) from just 12,250 KrisFlyer Miles each way.
One of the many perks with traveling on Business Class is the airport lounge access that you get before your flight - some of these are impressive like The Private Room in Changi Airport (when you fly First Class or Suites with Singapore Airlines) or the Cathay Pacific Lounge in Haneda Airport. On the other hand, some airport lounges are disappointing and lacklustre - the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one such example.
Even though I was very tempted to head back to the Cathay Pacific Lounge (and get a double serving of that delicious Wanton Noodles) in Haneda Airport, I decided to check out the JAL Sakura Lounge Skyview this time.
