KrisFlyer to Introduce More Changes - Greater Upgrade Options, Early Waitlist Confirmation, Discounted Last Minute Redemption and Award Calendar

Following the slight devaluation announcement this morning, KrisFlyer will be rolling out new changes in the days ahead. Unlike what has happened earlier today, all the changes in this article are largely positive and it will make the whole award redemption process a little less daunting (at least for beginners). Starting with the revisions to Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award and Upgrade Charts, these changes will begin rolling out from 24 January 2019.

Ability to Upgrade from Economy Class to Business Class

Passengers traveling in selected Economy fare class will soon be able to upgrade directly from Economy Class to Business Class (bypassing Premium Economy Class cabin even when it is available). As you may recall, passengers used to be able to upgrade only to Premium Economy class when it is available (one-cabin upgrade rule) but this restriction will be lifted from 24 January 2019. With that being said, the number of miles required for an upgrade from Economy to Business Class will obviously be more than the number of miles required for an upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy Class.

Award Calendar to Show Availability (±3 Days)

Starting from 31 January 2019, KrisFlyer members will be able to view all available redemption options across a seven-day window. All you have to do is to select the Flexible Travel Dates box during your redemption search to get an overview of redemption availability. For example, if you select '05 November 2019' as your desired day of travel, ticking the Flexible Travel Dates box will also show you award availability from 2-8 November 2019.

Waitlist Outcomes to be Issued 14 Days Prior to Flight

To provide passengers with great certainty about waitlisted award flights, KrisFlyer will begin informing members about the outcome of their waitlisted award flights at least 14 days prior to the date of travel - this change is currently planned for the second quarter of 2019. All successful award flights that have been waitlisted will be confirmed and the unsuccessful ones will be cancelled at least two weeks prior to the flight.

KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes becomes a Permanent Monthly Programme Feature

Even though KrisFlyer has been running Spontaneous Escapes promotions for the last few consecutive months, it was never made permanent officially. Starting from 15 February 2019, KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes will become a permanent feature of the programme and to commemorate this official milestone, the February edition will 'offer never-before redemption deals to destinations in [Singapore Airlines] network'.
