Marriott Bonvoy Events to Kill 10 Elite Qualifying Nights Benefit from 01 January 2020
Marriott Bonvoy members used to be able to earn 10 elite qualifying nights (which also count towards lifetime status) per calendar year with the first group, event or meeting that he or she holds. This opened up an easy way for members to accrue ten nights by holding a simple event at a hotel (some of which charges just S$200 to S$300 for a meeting) which is truly a fantastic way to gain or retain elite status in the program. Starting from 01 January 2020, this will change and Marriott Bonvoy members will no longer earn these ten nights with their first event.
While this change does not affect the current points/miles earn structure Members who hold qualifying events at participating properties (i.e. one elite night credit (capped at 20 per contract) for every 20 room nights actualised), it has certainly made retaining status for the non-frequent traveller a lot more difficult. Having Platinum Elite and higher status in Marriott Bonvoy comes with a lot of perks and I particularly like the guaranteed 4:00 PM late check-out, lounge access. the upgrades (to a suite, if available) as well as the Suite Night Awards that you can select as your Annual Choice Benefit.
