Using Foodpanda During the Circuit Breaker Period for at Least 9 Miles per Dollar (And Some Cashback)

With active circuit breaker measures in place, dining-out is not (and has not been) an option in Singapore - only takeaways are allowed. There are many ways to save money on takeaways and deliveries during this period and there are various food delivery apps that consumers in Singapore can utilise but I have personally stuck with foodpanda for most of my orders.

Now the reason why I pick foodpanda over its competition (like GrabFood and Deliveroo) is due to its high mileage accrual rates and discounts. By utilising the right credit cards, I have managed to earn at least 9 miles per dollar (mpd) as well as some bonus cashback on my foodpanda orders. Additionally, there are always bank promotions to take advantage of and these discounts stack with that 9 mpd accrual rate.

Using The Right Credit Card for 8 Miles per Dollar

Several banks have introduced limited-time promotions to offer cardholders more value during the circuit breaker period. American Express has introduced a Double Rewards campaign for Platinum Members to earn up to 15.6 mpd during this period! Unfortunately, foodpanda is not a Platinum EXTRA Partner so the earn rates with The Platinum Card are not that significant.

With that said, registered cardholders have been able to earn 8 miles per dollar (capped at the first S$500) from 15 April 2020 to 31 May 2020 on all eligible transactions and foodpanda is one of the participating merchants. Additionally, Citi Singapore has also introduced an Accelerated Rewards campaign last week to offer 8 miles per dollar on spend (capped at S$1,000) on the Citi Rewards Card until 30 June 2020. Between those two cards, I am able to chalk up 12,000 miles by spending just S$1,500 on foodpanda in two months. Anything in excess of S$1,500 will be charged to my DBS Woman's World Card for 4mpd (capped at S$2,000 each statement period).

With both the OCBC Bank as well as the Citi Singapore campaigns, you will be able to double-dip on that 8 mpd earn rate as well as some discount by purchasing discounted vouchers on Shopee or Lazada first. However, do note that you will forgo the opportunity to use any of the published bank promo codes if you were to utilise one of the discounted vouchers that you have purchased from Shopee or Lazada.

Earn 18% More KrisFlyer Miles on foodpanda (1.18 Miles per Dollar)

All eligible food orders (with minimum spend of S$20) made on foodpanda will earn 18% more KrisFlyer Miles from 11 May 2020 to 10 June 2020 - you will earn 1.18 mpd so long you enter your KrisFlyer Number when you are checking out for an order (you will only need to do it once). Additionally, you will also stand a chance to win 8,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles each week during this period so that can really improve the number of miles you get with each dollar if you are a lucky winner. Outside of the aforementioned promotional period, foodpanda users will earn 1 mile per dollar (minimum spend of S$20 required) - this is on top of what your credit cards accrue.

Use ShopBack for Extra Cashback

Finally, just because you are using foodpanda does not mean you shouldn't double-dip on promotions. Going first to ShopBack before clicking on foodpanda will get you 0.70% cashback for existing customers (and up to 14% cashback for new customers!). Now, 0.70% cashback is really nothing to get excited about (since a S$50 order will only get you S$0.20 cashback) but why say no to free money?
