Star Alliance Gold passengers traveling on an eligible flight can access The Star Lounge (operated by EVA Air) prior to departure but it is possibly one of the most uninspiring airport lounges that I have been to in recent years.

Officially opened back in April 2018, this 600,000 sqm space is home to China Southern Airlines but more importantly, a brand new lounge (accessible via Priority Pass) that I was meaning to check out — Premium Lounge. My flight from Guangzhou back to Singapore was on Singapore Airlines and it was conveniently departing from the relatively-new Terminal 2 of the airport.

The quality of food is good, the interiors are beautiful, there is a proper bar (that does solid cocktails) and the lounge will also be expanding this year to cater for more premium cabin guests. Even though Vietnam Airlines is not part of Star Alliance (it is actually part of the SkyTeam Alliance), most of the star alliance partner airlines use this lounge for their premium cabin passengers. Located in the International Departures Terminal above Gate 28, the Vietnam Airlines Lotus Lounge is open from 6:00AM to 2:00AM daily.
