Travel Smarter: Get the Exact Seat you want with ExpertFlyer
I wrote about the ability to search for award space on most major airlines with ExpertFlyer previously. While that was impressive enough, did you know that you can actually check out the seat map on any given flight with ExpertFlyer too? I'm not talking about the seat configurations that you can get from SeatGuru but I am actually talking about the availability of seats on a given flight - you can see which seats are taken and which are not!
While most of us are happy with either an "aisle seat" or a "window seat", ExpertFlyer allows you to monitor a particular seat that you are interested in. For example, Seat 3F in Suites Class on Singapore Airlines is a coveted seat (check out my experience here!) as it features three full windows which gives the cabin an even great sense of space.
For the purpose of this article, I will be using an upcoming flight that I will be taking in EVA Air's Royal Laurel class from Singapore to Taipei. Using ExpertFlyer's Seat Map feature, I am able to pinpoint which seats are currently being blocked and occupied. In fact, all the SeatGuru reviews are also integrated onto this page so selecting the perfect seat is that much easier. I am currently booked into 03A and as you can tell from the seat map above, the bulkhead 01A is currently being blocked.
Say for whatever reason, I really want the 01A bulkhead seat - I can go ahead and create a "Seat Alert" and ExpertFlyer will notify me via email when this seat becomes available for booking or selection. If you are traveling in PEY or EY, this Seat Alert feature is especially important if you are interested in monitoring exit row seats or seats that are together.
As I have mentioned previously, ExpertFlyer is not a free tool but if you do travel quite frequently, the annual subscription may prove to be invaluable at securing better flights and seats which will make your travels less stressful.
Use Seat Alerts by ExpertFlyer.com for Free!
With all that being said, there is actually a free app for both iOS and Android devices, which is free. The Seat Alerts app by ExpertFlyer.com allows you to create one free Seat Alert for free - once this alert has been used or a flight has been departed, a new alert can be made. Essentially you get unlimited seat alerts with this app but you can only monitor one particular flight at a given time with the free account - this includes the ability to select any aisle, any window, or even any seat if the flight is completely booked and you are simply looking to get on that flight.
