Hotel Review - Regent Singapore (Regent Club Premium Room) - Uplifted Rooms with An Amazing Club Lounge and Benefits

Regent Singapore is truly an interesting property - it is currently managed by the Capella Hotel Group (since December 2018) and if you do remember, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) acquired a 51% stake in Regent Hotels & Resorts back in 2018 so this property is also a participating property in the IHG Rewards Club program. Regent Singapore is still pet-friendly and even though the same level of superior service has stood the test of time, the property has recently unveiled a number of uplifted rooms and I was invited down to check them out last weekend.

Beautiful Atrium
Regent Singapore

My last stay at Regent Singapore was back in 2015 and this is till date, one of the most memorable staycations that I have ever taken in Singapore. It was my first-ever stay in Singapore where I was fortunate enough to have my dog staying with me and the team took great care of us. Unfortunately, I did not manage to hang out in the Regent Club for too long during my previous stay as I did not want to leave my dog alone for too long then. Therefore, even though I do not typically accept hosted stays, I jumped on the opportunity when the team invited me back to check out the newly-uplifted rooms. One of the Regent Club Premium Rooms have been arranged for my stay and I was accorded full access to the exclusive Regent Club during the weekend - check out my IGTV Video of the room here! I always enjoy the impressive view of the atrium while taking one of the bubble-lifts here in Regent Singapore. While I have been back on different occasions to check out Manhattan (#2 Asia's 50 Best Bars 2019) as well as Park90 on my own, I have not managed to go past level 3.

Uplifted Bedroom
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

The uplifted rooms at Regent Singapore are currently located on the upper floors of the property (even though you would expect them to make their way down at some point) so you definitely have time to enjoy the view on your way up. If you have stayed at Regent Singapore previously, the first thing you will probably notice in the uplifted rooms is how much brighter it looks - the change of carpets definitely have accentuate that look but more importantly, you will soon realise that modern conveniences have also been added to make your stays here (in the uplifted rooms, at least) more comfortable. Now, it is important to understand that these rooms have not undergone a major renovation or refurbishment and therefore the enhancements are minimal (at least from a cosmetic point of view).

King-size Bed
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

The Regent Club Premium Room that I have stayed in featured a plush and comfortable king-size bed with great sheets. They have also added a digital clock with an alarm function at some point but I am sure we all rely on our mobile phones for that. In any case, if you do need to get up for an important meeting or to catch a flight out of Singapore, the most sensible thing to do is to request for a wake-up call (that way you can be sure!).

Universal Power Outlet
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

Personally for me, one of the greatest additions to the uplifted room is the universal power outlets which can be found on both sides of the bed - they are somewhat hidden within the bedside table so you will have to pull them out in order to access them. There are two on each side and while this may seem like a fairly trivial addition, there are actually so many new hotels that do not actually have them. Sure, it is always possible to use a universal power adapter (which you should always travel with) during the stay but most of us do not travel with more than one and prioritising which devices to charge first results in unnecessary stress.

Smart TV and Work Station
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

The uplifted rooms have also been given a brand new Smart TV which is not only great for going through the extensive selection of channels available, but you will also be able to connect a smart device (unfortunately only Android at the moment, it seems) to it. If you are here for work, being able to run through your slides before an important meeting on the big screen makes a whole lot of difference. As you would expect, WiFi is also provided throughout the property (there is even a dedicated WiFi network for the Regent Club if you plan to work from there) and no password is required to connect to it.

Located to the side of the television is a massive work desk where you will find a selection of reading materials. While it may be a coincidence, I have actually found a copy of the New York Times here on the desk. Now, fun fact, I have actually requested for one on my previous stay so I am not sure my personal profile has been updated by someone. There is plenty of space to get work done here and located in one of the pull-out drawers are more universal power outlets - perfect for international travellers!

Welcome Amenities
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

The team over at Regent Singapore made sure that I was well taken care of and they even arranged a rather extensive selection of welcome amenities for my enjoyment during the stay - a bottle of Champagne, kyoho grapes from the Yamanashi Prefecture as well as some strawberries to go with it.

Coffee Machine and Minibar
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

The Regent Club Premium Room that I stayed in over the weekend also comes with a basic Nespresso machine, six complimentary coffee capsules (which are replenished when the room is made up) as well as a selection of tea from Monogram.

Even though I am definitely a coffee person and I do appreciate the existence of an espresso machine in the room, I do love the selection of teabags provided by Monogram - especially the Uji Sencha teabags! Coffee cups can be found in one of the draws located above the minibar and complimentary drinking water can also be found by the side.

Minibar
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

As part of my full Regent Club perks (if you booked the Regent Club Getaway rate, this will not apply to you), everything in the minibar (excluding alcoholic beverages) is included and complimentary. If you are in doubt, just be sure to check with one of the friend Regent Club staff to be extra sure - while it is fun to ‘raid’ a minibar, clocking up unnecessary charges during your stay can be a daunting experience at check-out (since these items are typically priced at a premium). Complimentary bottled water can also be found here in the minibar and this definitely something that I personally appreciate a lot since I do not have to wait for the water to be chilled upon getting into my room.

Foam Block and Roller from Lululemon
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

During my stay, I noticed that there was a couple of fitness equipment located inside the wardrobe and upon further investigation, I realised that the room comes with a foam block as well as a foam roller (both from Lululemon) which you can utilise during the stay. Now, if you have been struggling with lower backaches and would like to iron out that kink, this foam roller will actually do wonders for you - just make sure you do not start with the dedicated back roller immediately if this is your first time doing it.

Balcony
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

Some of the Regent Club Premium Rooms here at Regent Singapore also come with a private balcony. Due to the unique architecture of the property, the balcony that I had access to from my bedroom actually enjoyed natural daylight which is fantastic! You will find a small dining table as well as two chairs here which is perfect for you to enjoy a glass of wine or even supper in the evening.

Bathroom
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

I am not certain whether any changes were made to the bathrooms of the Regent Club Premium Rooms but even though they look dated, everything was functioning well. Disposable toothbrushes, as well as other personal hygiene amenities, can be found here in the bathroom and these are replenished in the evening during turndown as well as in the morning (if you are staying multiple nights).

Bathtub
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

In fact, the shower and tub combination (essentially a shub) was actually larger than expected. Honestly, most of my experiences with shubs have been extremely disappointing - the Hilton Singapore has a terribly small one which I would hate to use but the shub in my room here at Regent Singapore was actually quite pleasant.

Bath Amenities
Regent Club Premium Room - Regent Singapore

Bath amenities here in the Regent Club Premium Room were provided by L'Occitane en Provence and I do like the floral scent of the products. Now that Regent Singapore has fallen under the IHG Rewards Club program, I would expect these single-use plastic toiletry bottles to be phased out by 2021 as per IHG's stand.

Interiors
The Regent Club - Regent Singapore

Personally for me, the Regent Club is the pièce de résistance of Regent Singapore so if you are planning on staying here, do yourself a favour and get yourself access to this exclusive club lounge (which you will automatically get when you book one of the uplifted Regent Club Premium Rooms). Located on level 11 of the hotel, the Regent Club is open from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM daily to all esteemed guests with access to this space. Unlike most club lounges that I have been to, the Regent Club does not require you to tap your keycard in order to gain access. Now this is fairly uncommon in large business hotels that belong to a larger hotel loyalty program where members get guaranteed lounge access with elite status (e.g. Hilton Honors Diamond) since there is always a need to 'verify' whether the guest entering is a 'legitimate' one. IHG Rewards Club does not offer guaranteed lounge access even for her top-tier Spire Elite members (which makes it a comparatively unattractive loyalty program for me) but this results in something magical (and rare!) in this day and age - club lounges are spacious and there is always space even if you decide to head down during the 'peak hours'. The Regent Club is reserved only for long-term corporate guests as well as hotel guests who have booked a room or suite with club access. Therefore, this private space is almost always quiet (perfect for getting work done) and the staff actually make it a point to know your name (and address you by your last name on subsequent visits).

Negroni
The Regent Club - Regent Singapore

Evening cocktails and canapes are served from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM daily at the Regent Club - most hotels in the vicinity offer a 2-hour window for drinks so it is definitely nice to see that Regent Singapore is more generous in this aspect. Unfortunately, you will not find any Champagne here in the Regent Club during evening cocktail hour, but you will get free-flowing Prosecco instead. I also took the opportunity to enjoy a delicious negroni (made using Roku Gin) during my visit before moving on to more prosecco. Depending on what your poison is, you will find a range of spirits and wine at the Regent Club but more importantly, the staff will make sure that you get healthy refills throughout the evening.

What stood out for me most, however, was the quality of food served during this time - similar to my previous visit to the Regent Club, I have found the food selection here to balanced and generous. If you are lazy to head out of the hotel, there is definitely enough to make for a substantial and satisfying dinner - otherwise, there is always Basilico and Manhattan (with a new Millennium era) which you can head down to, depending on what your stomach and liver needs. There was a nice selection of items (both and hot and cold) available on the buffet and there is even a live station which is rather impressive since there is actually limited space. With Basilico's resounding reputation in the industry, it should not come as a surprise to find a good selection of cold cuts and cheeses here in the Regent Club.

Since I had full access to the Regent Club benefits (guests who book the Regent Club Getaway rate will only enjoy select benefits but I will cover that in a bit), I had the option of having breakfast at either the Regent Club or enjoy a full buffet breakfast at Basilico downstairs. I felt like I have spent quite a bit of time in the Regent Club the day before so I decided to head down to Basilico in the morning for more variety instead. There are various seating areas in the restaurant but if you can, try waking up a little earlier to get one of the tables that look out to the beautiful atrium. There is just something special about watching those bubble-lifts make their way up and down the lift shafts.

If you love your pastries, you will be spoilt for choice here at Regent Singapore - there is a huge selection of sweets in Basilico during breakfast and I went for the chocolate croissant twice (yes it was delicious!)l Apart from continental items, an egg station as well as an impressive cold cuts section (as far as breakfast buffets go), you will also find Asian dishes like fried rice and a ‘live’ noodle station. Coffee orders will also be taken when you are seated so just inform one of the friendly staff before making your way through the buffet line.

Guests staying with full Regent Club benefits can also choose to check-in and check-out at their own time so I decided to drop by the Regent Club for afternoon tea (2:00 PM to 4:00 PM) prior to checking-out. As mentioned earlier, there is a difference between having full Regent Club benefits and booking the Regent Club Getaway rate - while the latter rate does include most of the perks, there are a couple of benefits that will be excluded in this promotional rate. To summarise things, the Regent Club Getaway room package was introduced to provide travellers with an experience of the Regent Club - benefits include complimentary access to the Regent Club (for up to 2 adults) during the following meal periods:

  • 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM American-style breakfast (Regent Club only)

  • 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Light afternoon tea

  • 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM Cocktails and canapes

Additionally, guests who book the Regent Club Getaway package will also get to enjoy a 4:00 PM late checkout (subject to availability). On the other hand, if are staying at Regent Singapore with full Regent Club benefits, it will include the aforementioned benefits as well as the following additional perks:

  • Complimentary minibar (excluding alcoholic drinks)

  • Complimentary gourmet coffee, tea, beverages and light snacks available all day at Regent Club

  • Complimentary two-hour use of meeting room daily

  • Unlimited pressing services (excl. laundry and dry-cleaning)

  • 15% food and beverage discount

The uplifted rooms here at Regent Singapore may not be swankiest or the prettiest but one thing remains true - service is of utmost importance here in the property and the staff definitely try their best to go over and beyond what is required to delight their guests. Having been to so many executive lounges across luxury hotels in Singapore, the Regent Club offers one of the most exclusive experiences in Singapore with a high staff-to-guest ratio. While I have stayed as a guest of the property this time (and therefore, have received extra care and attention from the amazing team), service is truly integral to the way guests are treated here - I have been to the property on multiple occasions on my own as a diner and they have always treated everyone with respect and that same level of attention.
