Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant (Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel) will be paying homage to the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 this year with twelve exquisite, low-sugar mooncake creations. Fusion flavours (alongside all the other carefully created mooncakes) like the gold-dusted Black Truffle, Roasted Chestnut, Waxed Duck and Single Yolk with White Lotus Seed Paste will be available from 21 August 2015 to 27 September 2015. The mooncakes at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant are all beautifully encased in an auspicious and elegant red treasure chest hot-stamped with gold peonies that symbolise riches, prosperity and romance.
The beautiful black charcoal baked mooncake (S$78 for box of four) is dusted luxuriously with gold and it encapsulates the premium flavours of both the East and West - black truffle and waxed duck. Thanks to the team at the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, I had the privilege of testing some of the mooncakes this year and this is by far my favourite mooncake this season (amongst all the mooncakes from different hotels that I have tasted).
If you are looking for an exotic flavour, check out the Jalapeno and Chicken Bak-Kwah with White Lotus Seed Paste Baked Mooncake (S$62 for box of four) that is inspired by Wan Hao's popular Chicken Bak-Kwah cookies with a kick of spiciness.
Not a fan of the traditional mooncakes? Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel has a range of interesting snowskin flavours (S$60 for a box of eight) that will be sure to dazzle your tastebuds:
- Sour Plum with Portuguese Custard Paste and Lime Puree
- Teh Tarik with Chocolate Pearls
- Sencha Green Tea with Japanese Red Bean
- White Lotus Seed Paste with Egg Yolk
Of all the snowskin mooncakes that I have tasted this year, my personal favourite is the Teh Tarik with Chocolate Pearls Snowskin Mooncake. I love the rich teh tarik flavours that are balanced with the mildly sweet lotus paste and crunchy chocolate pearls - definitely one to try!
