Your Upcoming Marriott Award Redemption Stays May Require Less (Or More!) Points from 14 September 2019 - Standard, Peak and Off-Peak Rates

Marriott Bonvoy will be introducing two new rates alongside the current Standard redemption rates on 14 September 2019. Depending on the need periods and actual demand for individual properties, Marriott Bonvoy members will soon have access to Off-Peak (as well as Peak) rates. Therefore, if you have an existing award redemption stay, you may be better off on 14 September to re-book it under the off-peak rate if it is available.

Starting from 14 September 2019, all hotels that participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program will offer one of three redemption rates - off-peak, standard (current) and peak. Currently, all hotels offer only a standard rate of redemption and this does not differ based on seasons or need periods (even though a hotel may choose to close out the option for redemption). According to Marriott Bonvoy, the majority of redemption rates will remain at the Standard rate that they are today but I am certainly keen to see if it makes sense to re-book any of my existing award nights at a cheaper, off-peak rate.

Do note that while any existing award reservations will be honoured, any changes made the new redemption rates become effective will be subject to changes. More importantly, the 5th night free benefit will be re-branded into ‘Stay for 5, Pay for 4’ and what this means is that members will receive the lowest-point night for free when making a redemption stay of five consecutive nights.
