Chope Massively Devalues ChopePerks Programme - You Now Need 2.5X the Previously Required Amount for a S$10 ChopeDeals Discount Code
Last month, Chope quietly announced the extension of membership tiers into 2021 and hinted at an upcoming devaluation on 17 November 2020. Today, the new catalog for rewards has been unveiled on the app and it will now require 2.5X more Chope-Dollars to redeem for a S$10 ChopeDeals Discount Code which you can use online with a minimum spend of S$20.
Previously, Chope users were able to obtain a S$10 ChopeDeals Discount Code with just 400 Chope-Dollars - you will now require 1,000 Chope-Dollars (2.5X more!) for the same thing. The redemption is still limited to one per month for each Chope member but the S$20 and S$30 discount code variants have been discontinued. Previously, each fulfilled reservation for a regular member is worth S$3 (or S$5.25 for a Platinum member) if redeeming for the S$30 ChopeDeals Discount Code. With all these options out of the window, Chope users can now only earn S$1 (or S$1.75 for Platinum members) per fulfilled reservation in light of these changes.
There are various other redemption options on the catalog and it ranges from Shopee discounts (for new users only) as well as membership subscriptions for various paid services - none of them makes sense as you can get the same offer from a participating credit card or various promo codes that you can find scattered over the internet without having to use up your reserve of Chope-Dollars. With that being said, Chope-Dollars will begin to expire from 31 March 2021 so you might have to find use them anyway.
It goes without saying that this is a negative change for ChopePerks which is essentially Chope's loyalty program. While it will not deter me from using the app completely, the changes to the rewards catalog and the devaluation of Chope-Dollars have certainly made the entire program rather worthless in my opinion. It is a shame that ShopBack now offers only S$0.80 cashback for reservations made on Quandoo (it used to offer up to S$9 per fulfilled reservation during tactical windows) but I would keep my eye out for it as S$0.80 in the bank is worth a lot more than S$1.00 discount on a ChopeDeal.
