Chope to Extend 2020 Membership Tier into 2021 - Upcoming Chope-Dollars Devaluation on 17 November 2020
Chope is one of my favourite apps to use since it allows me to make restaurant reservations on to the go and pick-up some Chope-Dollars (which can be exchanged for things like dining discount vouchers) along the way. In view of the global COVID-19 situation, Chope has extended the validity of Chope-Dollars that are expiring on and after 30 June 2020. Redemption of Chope-Dollars was previously suspended until 03 November 2020 but this appears to have been pushed back further to 17 November 2020 instead.
Extension of ChopePerks Membership Tiers
There are five distinct membership tiers in the Chope loyalty programme and Platinum (being the highest tier) members can earn 175 Chope-Dollars per fulfilled reservation. While Platinum members are typically required to fulfill at least 55 reservations each year, Chope has quietly extended the 2020 membership tiers of all members into 2021 - you will keep your current membership tier regardless of the number of fulfilled reservation this year. If you have tiered up during this time, you’ll continue on the higher tier.
Redemption of Chope-Dollars will Resume on 17 November 2020
Chope-Dollars will only start to expire from 31 March 2021 and while the redemption of Chope-Dollars was previously suspended until 03 November 2020 only, it appears that Chope has pushed this date further back to 17 November 2020. At the time of writing, Chope-Dollars can be converted into ChopeDeals Discount Codes (with a minimum spend requirement) but this has been suspended until 17 November 2020. At the time of writing, this is how much Chope-Dollars are worth:
S$10 ChopeDeals Discount Code (Min. Spend of S$20) - 400 Chope-Dollars
S$20 ChopeDeals Discount Code (Min. Spend of S$30) - 700 Chope-Dollars
S$30 ChopeDeals Discount Code (Min. Spend of S$45) - 1,000 Chope-Dollars
Devaluation of Chope-Dollars on 17 November 2020
According to the latest updates on ChopePerks, Chope-Dollars will be repriced to "reflect the COVID-19 situation and for [the] loyalty programme to remain viable". At the time of writing, it is impossible to see what the devaluation will look like (since redemption will only be allowed on 17 November 2020) but users will most likely see less value (in the form of great Chope-Dollars required, less discount, or higher minimum spend) when that goes live.
