Hotel Review: Hilton Singapore (Executive Room) - Opus Steak-Cation Package with Great Value!
Since Phase 2 of Singapore's reopening, I have done 15 stays (over a period of 1.5 months) at the Hilton Singapore as I wanted to retain my Hilton Honors Diamond Status - the double points and double nights global promotion makes it extra attractive! To attract more locals to stay at the property, the Hilton Singapore launched the Opus Steak-Cation package (from S$265++ a night) which comes with a stay, steak, and free-flowing wine for two.

The Opus Sharing Steak with 2-hour free-flowing wine is typically priced at S$178++ so being able to get a room, guaranteed late check-out at 3:00 PM, as well as breakfast for just S$87++ more is really a steal. With that being said, do note that the rate for this package varies - you are more likely to find the lowest rates on a weekday but if your dates are flexible, it should not be difficult to get it at the advertised price point of S$265++. Now I have to say upfront that the Hilton Singapore is a pretty dated property and it is not typically somewhere that I would consider for a staycation if not for the need to keep my Hilton Honors Diamond status. With that being said, this is truly one of the best value staycation packages that I have seen in a while - if you do enjoy a good steak (and the Opus Bar & Grill actually does a rather good job), the room package makes a lot sense.
As I am currently a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I got upgraded into an Executive Room during my stay - the room is pretty much the same as the lead-in room category but it does come with a Nespresso coffee machine and it is located on a much higher floor at the Hilton Singapore. Obviously, you will also get to enjoy access to the Executive Lounge (which only operates daily during the evening cocktail hours, and for breakfast on weekends) with this room type which is in line with Hilton Honors Diamond benefits. After staying at the Hilton Singapore for 15 times (with most of them on weekdays where lower occupancy rates are expected), it is safe to say that suite upgrades are close to impossible - my best upgrade on property is an Executive Room only.
The Executive Rooms here at the Hilton Singapore measure approximately 32sqm in size and they are located on Levels 20 and 21 of the hotel. The 50-inch IPTV in the room is a fairly new addition but everything else is pretty much what I have seen over the last couple of years. As you may already know, Singapore will be getting a brand new Hilton property in 2022 when it takes over the current Mandarin Orchard Singapore - this will also become the largest Hilton property in Asia-Pacific with over 1,000 rooms. There are photos of a demo room at the current Hilton Singapore floating around on the internet and it looks great, but it is unclear at this point as to whether or not all the rooms will receive this transformation at some stage.
As I have mentioned earlier, the rooms here at the Hilton Singapore are rather dated but surprisingly the bed is extremely comfortable (I remember they were way too soft from my previous stays back in 2017). The pillows are also quite comfortable and there are two extra ones in the wardrobe if you require more. If I had to pick my favourite aspect of the room, it would most definitely have to be the bed - getting a restful night's sleep is extremely important and the Hilton Singapore ticked all the right boxes for me personally.
Apart from the lead-in room category, all other rooms at the Hilton Singapore come with a basic Nespresso coffee machine so you can enjoy a cup of hot coffee without heading out. The property has also chosen to close the Executive Lounge most of the time in the spirit of adhering to safe management measures - it will open from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM daily for cocktails and canapés in the evening and it will also be used for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays to meet with the demands from higher occupancy rates but more on this later.
TWG Teabags are also provided in the drawer under the coffee machine and they are replaced in the morning if you ask for the room to be refreshed (if you are staying for more than one night). Apparently, evening turndown is only provided if it is being requested and it will only be offered to Hilton Honors Diamond members on one-night stays.
The Premium Rooms here at the Hilton Singapore have undergone a light refresh and the bathrooms have been renovated to replace the shub (essentially a shower + tub) with a rain shower instead. The Executive Room (which I stayed in) however still features the shub so if you do want a bathtub during your stay, make sure to decline an upgrade into a Premium Room and ask for a Deluxe Plus or Executive Room instead.
Bath amenities in the Executive Rooms are provided by Crabtree and Evelyn and they are in slightly larger bottles (45ml) as compared to the lead-in room category.
Similar to most hotels that are operating during this period, a booking must be made for the swimming pool and gym (separately) if you wish to use them during your stay at the Hilton Singapore. If you are staying on a weekday, you will need to proceed down to the lobby and get one of the staff to escort you up to the pool or gym during your reserved time slot. The swimming pool here at the hotel may not be the nicest looking one around but it is still a great spot to chill after spending the afternoon out (or to work on your tan). There is also a smaller and shallower side for those visiting with younger children.
If you are staying on a weekend, your keycard should give you access to Level 23 where the gym is located (and Level 24 via the staircase) - there will be a staff stationed here during the weekends who can give you access to the respective areas. It goes without saying that pool slots are extremely popular over the weekends (especially with families and kids) so I highly recommend that you make a booking as quickly as you can.
The Executive Lounge at the Hilton Singapore is open from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM daily and guests with access are required to make a booking for 5:30 PM or 6:30 PM - you are only allowed to stay for an hour (on paper) as safe management principles are in place with reduced seating capacity. It does get quite busy over the weekends but it is always a lot nicer on weekdays.
Having stayed at the Hilton Singapore 15 times since September 2020, I must say that the Executive Lounge (and more importantly, the team over here) is the crown jewel of the property. The rooms are definitely tired and are in need of a refresh but the amazing team at the Executive Lounge made all the stays here worthwhile - special shoutout to Pei Xuan and Kenny for making my stays at the Hilton Singapore fantastic (and for also staying on top of refills). Throughout my stays at the property (which were typically on a Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday), the food options at the lounge were never the same - some items made a comeback but I must have seen at least 25-30 different components throughout all my stays in recent months. Champagne is not served in the lounge (no matter what other bloggers say) and if you are interested in sparkling wine, they do have the Ruggeri Argeo Prosecco Treviso Brut DOC NV available - there are also a handful of cocktails but don’t expect them to be too complicated.
The Opus Steak-Cation Package (from S$265++ a night) at Hilton Singapore comes with a dinner for two at Opus Bar & Grill and it comes inclusive of free-flowing wines (including Prosecco) for two hours. I have been to Opus Bar & Grill previously but I definitely think that the quality of food here has improved since my last visit. As mentioned earlier, the Opus premium sharing steak dinner experience for two is worth S$178++ and this is really a fantastic room package if you wish to indulge - diners will have a choice of the following steak selections:
Premium Butcher’s Platter of 600g Black Angus bone-in rib eye, 150g Wagyu rump Cap, Braised Wagyu short rib & gourmet beef sausages;
1kg Black Angus Porterhouse, marble score 3
Signature 1kg U.S. Black Angus bone-in rib eye, dry-aged, marble score 4
Wagyu and lobster of 500g Australian Wagyu sirloin and Marine Stewardship Council-certified Boston lobster
1.2kg whiskey-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk, 360 days grain-fed, marble score 5 (Supplement of S$20++)
While it is not part of the dinner experience, the Crab Cake with Celeriac Remoulade and Pink Grapefruit is definitely one to try. Filled with generous chunks of premium lump crab meat, the crab cake had a light but crispy exterior which was really the perfect appetiser. It was also beautifully-presented but I would love to have more of that remoulade to go with this dish.
For my choice of steak, I went with the 1.2kg whiskey-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk (at a supplement of S$20++). If you are one for Instagram, do have your camera or mobile phone ready for the flambé as the chef finishes the dish in front on your eyes. The dish is obviously a treat for the eyes but more importantly, it is also a fantastic treat for your tummy - this is easily one of the best steaks that I have eaten this year (and I have been to other premium steakhouses).
As I have opted for a weekend stay, the Executive Lounge is open for Hilton Honors Diamond members during breakfast. If you do not hold Diamond status in the Hilton Honors program, you will get to enjoy your breakfast at Opus Bar & Grill so do try to get there earlier as the crowd really gets in around 9:00 AM. I do believe that hotel guests are required to book a breakfast time slot on weekends but I am sure that is something that the front desk will be assisting you with as you check-in. If you do choose to have your breakfast in the Executive Lounge (which you will have to book a slot too), the spread is slightly different as only continental breakfast is served - there is still an egg station however, so you can order them the way you want.
The Opus Steak-Cation room package at Hilton Singapore is easily one of the best staycation deals in Singapore right now - paying just S$265++ for a stay that comes with a S$178++ dinner experience for two is a no brainer. Trust me, after two hours of free-flowing alcohol, that bed will definitely come in handy, and being able to keep the room until 3:00 PM the next day without having to ask for it will definitely be appreciated. If you are chasing an elite status with the Hilton Honors program, do remember that you can now earn double elite-qualifying nights that will roll over to 2021.

TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is a great value choice for budget-conscious travelers but its slightly longer walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station may make it less convenient compared to more accessible (but pricier) options in the area.
