The HSBC Revolution Credit Card Might Be the Best Credit Card for Dining in Singapore - up to 50% Discount and Earn 4 Miles per Dollar!

There are only a handful of credit cards in Singapore that I would highly recommend but the recommendations are highly dependent on the spending occasion. While general spend credit cards are incredibly easy to understand, they do not offer the same level of accrual rate (up to 4 miles per dollar, or 2.5% cashback) as specific-spend cards like the HSBC Revolution Credit Card. If most of your expenses each month go towards dining, you should seriously consider applying for the HSBC Revolution Credit Card by 30 April 2021 as a new customer to receive up to S$200 cashback on your card.

1. Earn 10X Rewards Points on Eligible Contactless Payments - 4 Miles per Dollar or 2.5% Cashback!

It is fairly common for restaurants to now accept contactless payments (e.g. Visa payWave or Apple Pay) and using your HSBC Revolution Credit Card can earn you 10X Rewards Points on all eligible contactless payments - this is equivalent to 4 miles per dollar (which is typically the most number of miles per dollar that you can earn on a credit card with a small exception) or 2.5% cashback.

HSBC publishes a list of Merchant Category Codes (MCC) where cardholders can earn 10X Rewards Points on and it also includes eligible contactless transactions made in supermarkets (e.g. NTUC FairPrice and Cold Storage), food delivery platforms (e.g. GrabFood and Foodpanda), as well as in hotels. Do note that a S$1,000 monthly cap applies on the HSBC Revolution Credit Card as the number of bonus points is capped at 9,000 per calendar month.

Reward Points that you accrue on the HSBC Revolution Credit Card will expire in three years (or almost 37 months to be more specific) from the month in which they have been awarded so there is plenty of time to use them (or to convert them into frequent flyer miles).

2. Save up to 50% off total bill on Dining with ENTERTAINER with HSBC App - Free with Your HSBC Credit Card

All principal cardholders of the HSBC Revolution Credit Card will have complimentary access to the ENTERTAINER with HSBC app which allows them to enjoy exclusive 1-for-1 deals and savings of up to 50%. With a minimum of two diners, HSBC customers will be able to enjoy deals like 1-for-1 Main Course when dining across participating restaurants - these offers are valid until 31 December 2021 as the list of merchants may change in 2022 (but you will continue to have access even if you apply this year).

If you are dining alone, EXPRESS deals on the ENTERTAINER with HSBC app allows you to enjoy 25% on the total bill up to four times per merchant per calendar month. I tend to take away lunch from my favourite places quite a bit and Wafuken is one of the places I frequent. Being able to enjoy 25% savings on top of earning 4 miles per dollar with the HSBC Revolution Credit Card is seriously quite a great deal.

Apart from Food and Drink offers, ENTERTAINER with HSBC also includes a range of other deals that ranges from Beauty & Fitness to Travel (e.g. staycation). All of these deals are included in your complimentary membership and anyone who applies for an eligible HSBC card will be able to enjoy them upon enrolment.

3. Stack Dining Discounts with ShopBack GO for Extra Cashback (on top of your 10X Rewards Points)

While I do not typically advocate a cashback credit card, being able to earn cashback on top of my credit card points and miles is definitely something that I encourage everyone to do. ShopBack GO is one of the easiest things to set-up (it takes less than 3 minutes) and the cashback that you earn from your linked credit cards is automatic. While it is not specific to HSBC Credit Cards only (you can link any Singapore-issued Visa and Mastercard), HSBC customers will be able to enjoy extra cashback on top of exclusive deals when they use the ENTERTAINER with HSBC app as mentioned in the paragraph above.

Let's put this into a simple example - let us assume that my HSBC Revolution Credit Card is already linked on ShopBack GO as it should. For some reason, I typically spend around S$21.50 at Wafuken but using the EXPRESS deal on the ENTERTAINER with HSBC app will allow me to enjoy an immediate 25% off. After factoring in the discount of S$5.38, my HSBC Revolution Credit Card will only be charged S$16.12. Since this card is linked on ShopBack GO, I will receive 5% partner cashback (S$0.81) on this transaction and therefore the total amount paid would only be S$15.31 after factoring in the discounts and the cashback. Additionally, paying for this order with my HSBC Revolution Credit Card will also earn me 4 miles per dollar via Visa payWave or Apple Pay. If enjoying 28.8% discount on your favourite lunch and earning 4 miles per dollar does not excite you, I am not sure what would.

4. No Annual Fee Forever, Seriously

One of the things that I really dislike doing each year is to keep track of when credit card annual fees are charged. While there are annual fees that I would gladly pay for (e.g. the S$1,712 annual fee that comes with The Platinum Card), paying the annual fee for a card that gives you zero renewal benefits makes very little sense. With the HSBC Revolution Credit Card, you will never have to worry about getting an annual fee waiver approved because there are no annual fees involved with this card forever.

5. Exclusive HSBC Credit Card Dining Promotions

HSBC customers enjoy plenty of dining deals each month and the best ones are usually limited-time offers. In the month of March 2021, cardholders were able to enjoy 1-for-1 buffets at Oscar's (located within Conrad Centennial Singapore) and Melt Cafe (located within Mandarin Oriental, Singapore) if they made an eligible booking. Paying with your HSBC Revolution Credit Card at restaurants located within hotels in Singapore via a contactless method should almost always earn you 4 miles per dollar as well so there is really very little reason to use another card.

The HSBC Revolution Credit Card is seriously one of the best credit cards in Singapore right now and it is also one of the rare few cards that will allow you to earn 4 miles per dollar on eligible purchases each month. Applying for the HSBC Revolution Credit Card as an eligible new customer will allow you to get up to S$200 cashback after spending S$500 by the end of the next calendar month (effectively a 40% cashback). This is one of the best credit card sign-up deals in Singapore right now and this card should definitely be in everyone's wallet regardless of whether you are chasing miles or cash back.

If you are new to HSBC, applying for the HSBC Revolution Credit Card via SingSaver by 22 March 2021 will allow you to get a free Dyson Cool Tower Fan (worth S$499) or S$300 cash after spending at least S$500 before the end of 30 April 2021.
