Hotel Review: The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore (Stamford Suite) - Modern and Opulent Suite with Great Location
The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is constantly rated as one of the best staycation options in Singapore. My last stay at this property was back in 2019 in a Terrace Room but after hearing so much fanfare about this property, I was excited to check out one of the beautifully appointed Stamford Suites in this property once again.

Located just a short stroll away from City Hall MRT, The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore offers convenient access to popular sightseeing spots in the area. More importantly, it is also connected underground to various shopping malls, making it easy to get around on foot even when it is raining. The check-in process was fuss-free and I was offered a 6:00 PM late check-out because of my DISCOVERY Loyalty Black Status as I was checking out on a weekday.
The Stamford Suites at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore are located in the historic Stamford House wing which was built in 1904 before being restored a couple of years ago. They measure approximately 58-61 sqm (the room size differs slightly) in size and they offer a separate living area that can be partitioned off to create a more private space. The taller ceilings and large historic windows allow plenty of natural daylight to come in but more importantly, the windows are double-glazed to shut out external sounds and noises.
The first thing that you will probably notice as you walk into the Stamford Suite is the huge open bathroom that features a deep-soaking bathtub on one side. This is quite possibly one of my favourite bathtubs in Singapore - there is even an ad notam television in front to provide you with some entertainment (if necessary) while you enjoy a relaxing soak. If you are not a fan of bathtubs (why?!), there is a massive shower area located right next to it.
Bath amenities are Salvatore Ferragamo-branded and these are replaced during evening turndown, as well as in the morning when housekeeping comes to make up your room if you are staying for more than one night. A large bottle of hand sanitizer was also provided during my stay and this is very much appreciated - most hotels only provide a smaller bottle.
The Stamford Suite comes with double vanity sinks which are located directly opposite the bathtub - the layout of the suite is quite unique but it all makes sense once you familiarise yourself with the sliding doors. For those traveling with friends or family, do note that the entire bathroom can be closed off from the bedroom - you will be able to access both the dry and wet areas of the bathrooms (while maintaining your modesty) even though they are located on opposite sides.
It is also novel to find a washlet with a heated seat in Singapore - while these are fairly common in Japan, they are pretty rare in Singapore and therefore, it almost feels like a treat when you have them in your room. I will not go too much into detail regarding this but it does what it is made to do.
A relatively small but beautifully-furnished living area separates the bathroom from the bedroom. This is where you will find a massive flat-screen TV which is connected to a beautiful Sonus soundbar so you can enjoy your favourite programs on the big screen. Connecting your own personal devices wirelessly is also fairly easy - nothing like being able to catch-up on your favourite series on the huge TV while taking advantage of the sound system.
While the living area of the Stamford Suite may not exceedingly large, it really is a cosy little nook that is perfect for lazy afternoons and quiet evenings. The high ceilings and parquet floorings make the entire suite feel extremely residential (in a great way) and there is honestly nothing I like more than staying-in when I am on a staycation in Singapore.
As a DISCOVERY Loyalty Black (now known as GHA DISCOVERY Titanium) member, a special and extremely-elaborated welcome amenity was provided for me in the Stamford Suite - this is consistent with my stays in Kempinski properties in Dubai (check out my review of the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates!) as well as in Bangkok.
A Nespresso coffee machine and complimentary coffee capsules are provided in the Suite and TWG-branded teabags are provided on the side as well. I absolutely love that there are proper coffee cups and glassware in this suite so you do not have to worry about drinking wine out of a coffee cup even if you were to bring your own bottle. Everything in the minibar (with the exception of alcoholic beverages) is also complimentary so feel free to raid it during your stay!
If you have been following The Shutterwhale for a while now, you know I don’t say this often but my favourite part of the Stamford Suite has to be the bedroom and the study area. Honestly, I had my concerns when I was planning to stay in this historic wing - I am an extremely light-sleeper so ambient noise can really wake me up but I had the most amazing sleep during my stay here. I think I was only woken up once on my first night by a supercar that was speeding during the wee hours of the morning but honestly, I hear that even when I am forty floors up from the ground in my apartment.
The massive work desk that faces out allows you to enjoy plenty of natural daylight which is honestly a huge draw for me. The desk also flips upwards to reveal a dressing mirror with lights - intelligent use of space and it makes perfect sense. The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore also provides the usual amenities that you would expect from a luxury hotel but they are just so much better here - the bedroom slippers are super comfortable, the bathrobes (which you can’t take home, sorry) are incredibly plush, and even the shoe bag is velvety soft.
Located on the side of the bed is a small alarm clock that has both wireless and wired charging functions - it even comes with a universal power outlet on top as additional USB ports for power-hungry travellers (I honestly need this clock in my life). You will also find the automated controls for the day and night blinds here - you can toggle them with an easy flick of the button.
The bedroom honestly feels like a hybrid between a palatial chamber and a private study - it was a tough call between spending time in the cosy living area of the Stamford Suite or this beautiful light-filled bedroom.
If you book a Suite at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore or the Double Indulgence room package, you will get to enjoy daily evening aperitifs at the Lobby Lounge from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (yes, that means you will get to enjoy free-flowing alcohol for two hours). The Lobby Lounge is partitioned from the main lobby and it is located adjacent to where you would normally check-in at this hotel - it is a quiet little nook which is perfect for those looking to get some work done or to enjoy an Afternoon Tea experience.
While the Lobby Lounge does not function as a club lounge (since it does not offer beverages all day for eligible guests), being able to enjoy two hours of free-flowing drinks in the evening is fantastic and especially great for those with flexible working arrangements - is there a better way to end the workday?! Eligible guests will be able to select from a fixed menu for drinks but do note that food is not provided (even though the local dishes (from S$24++) are pretty decent and they can be ordered and served alongside with your complimentary drinks.
It is safe to say that The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore offers one of the best hotel breakfast experiences in a post-COVID world. This is definitely not something that you would want to pop-in and out off quickly - you will definitely want to set aside sometime before you start your day to make the best out of it. Honestly, if you are here on a workcation, make sure you wake up early to enjoy your breakfast at 15 Stamford before turning on your laptop.
While it may not be an advertised benefit, regulars would know that sparkling wine (or even mimosas if that is something you prefer) is served during breakfast - simply ask and you shall receive (for free). Starting your day with a solid espresso is great but starting it with a glass of sparkling wine is fantastic.
Now if you thought that the drinks are fantastic, you should definitely see what kind of food is on offer! I absolutely love the table-side service where a baker comes around to offer a bakes & viennoiserie selection - simply tell him or her what you want and it will be placed on your plate. You can also start your day with a power shot (prepared from a range of nutrient-packed super food juices) or choose your favourite condiments from the wagon trolley (which offers housemade spreads). There is a handsome selection of a la carte breakfast items (more than 20 if memory serves me right) and you can order as many as you want - secret off-menu items include the Steak and Eggs as well as Laksa just to name a few.
The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is without a doubt, one of the nicest properties in Singapore and even though a night here may set you back a bit, it is truly one to consider if you are celebrating something special or if you simply want an indulgent weekend. The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is part of the Virtuoso network and booking a Virtuoso Rate (essentially the Best Available Rate) will give you exclusive amenities like property credits (typically USD 100), room upgrades, and complimentary breakfast. These perks can only be accessed when you book with a Virtuoso advisor and The Shutterwhale partners with ClassicTravel.com to bring these perks to you at no additional charge.

TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is a great value choice for budget-conscious travelers but its slightly longer walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station may make it less convenient compared to more accessible (but pricier) options in the area.
