In a special Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotion, American Airlines is offering a tiered discount on purchased miles, allowing members to save up to 50% on the cost of miles. Furthermore, the airline has temporarily increased the annual purchase cap, allowing eligible members to buy up to 500,000 miles (up from the usual 200,000) during this promotional window. The promotion runs from 2:01 p.m. on 28 November 2025 until 1:59 p.m. on 3 December 2025 (Singapore Time).

Unlike typical promotions that offer "bonus miles," this offer provides a direct discount on the purchase price. To achieve the lowest cost per mile, you will need to trigger the highest tier. The discount structure is as follows:

To unlock the maximum 50% discount, you must purchase exactly 500,000 miles in a single transaction. At the top tier (50% off), the cost per mile drops to approximately 1.88 US cents (approx. 2.44 SGD cents). While this is not the absolute lowest price we have ever seen for AAdvantage miles, it is a very competitive rate, particularly given the massive quantity you can purchase in one go.

Sweet Spots for Singapore Travellers

Why should you care about American Airlines miles if you live in Singapore? The answer lies in the Oneworld alliance. AAdvantage miles can be redeemed on partners like Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Malaysia Airlines, often with zero or relatively low fuel surcharges.

This is an incredible price for 7-8 hours in the Qsuite.

• Japan Airlines or Cathay Pacific to USA (70,000 Miles): For transpacific travel, AAdvantage charges a flat 70,000 miles for Business Class between Asia 2 (Singapore) and the Continental US. You can route via Tokyo (on JAL) or Hong Kong (on Cathay Pacific). Compared to other programmes that charge upwards of 100k miles, this remains a fantastic deal.

• Finnair to Europe (75,000 Miles): You can fly from Singapore to Helsinki (and connect to other European cities) on Finnair for 75,000 miles in Business Class. This is a great way to avoid the high fuel surcharges often associated with other European carriers.
