Why I’m Not Renewing My Accor Plus and ALL Accor+ Explorer Membership – Even With a 'Complimentary' Subscription

With my Accor Plus membership set to expire at the end of August 2025, I have made the decision not to renew it. Once known for its generous perks and flexibility, the programme has slowly stripped away its most valuable benefits, and the upcoming revamp only cements my choice to walk away. Not even the complimentary membership tied to The American Express Singapore Airlines Business Credit Card is enough to change my mind this time.

1. No More Discount Stacking from October 2025

Under the current programme, Accor Plus members enjoy the ability to stack their member discount on top of promotional rates, meaning you’d almost always get the lowest rate available, even during flash sales.

However, starting 1 October 2025, the new ALL Accor+ Explorer will only offer a flat 15% off the best available (flexible) rate. This might sound decent at first glance, but in reality, it eliminates one of the key benefits of membership - the ability to “double dip” on promos. With this change, members will likely end up paying more than they used to, especially during major sales.

2. Calendar-Year Status Resets Penalise Some Loyal Members

In 2024, I earned over 26,000 status points, which granted me ALL Diamond status - unlocking benefits like complimentary access to the Fairmont Gold Lounge. Under the current rules, renewing my Accor Plus membership would extend my Diamond status through to 30 August 2026. However, the new programme will reset everyone’s status based strictly on the calendar year, with no carry-over. That means my 2024 activity is completely disregarded, and only points earned in 2025 will count towards my 2026 status. As I’ve only accumulated around 14,000 points so far this year, I’m on track to be downgraded to ALL Platinum next year, regardless of whether I renew or not.

3. Complimentary Membership No Longer Adds Value

I currently receive an Accor Plus membership as a benefit of holding The American Express Singapore Airlines Business Credit Card, which recently charged its S$400 annual fee. In return, I would receive 6,000 HighFlyer Points and another year of Accor Plus. This year, I was also offered the option to waive the annual fee entirely (with no bonus points and Accor Plus membership) - and that’s exactly what I chose. The value proposition just isn’t there anymore. With the ALL Accor+ Explorer now reduced to S$299 (from S$408), there’s little reason to justify paying S$400 for a card that no longer offers meaningful advantages in this area.

Accor Plus used to shine because of two things: stackable discounts and status extensions. With the new ALL Accor+ Explorer stripping away both of these benefits, what remains is a flatter, less rewarding experience. I will be letting my membership lapse this August, and I suspect I won’t be the only one.
