15% Cashback on Grab Rides with Standard Chartered Credit Card

Eligible Standard Chartered cardholders used to be able to enjoy 20% cashback on Grab rides previously but that promotion has expired on 31 July 2018. From now until 31 December 2018, you will be able to enjoy up to 15% cashback on Grab rides in Singapore (and overseas!) when you charge at least S$900 of eligible retail spend each month to your Standard Chartered Credit Card - the cashback is capped at S$30 per month per cardholder.

Now that Citibank's 8 miles per dollar promotion is coming to an end, it may be a good time to consider another bank's promotion. Standard Chartered is giving all eligible cardholders the opportunity to earn up to S$30 cashback between 16 July 2018 and 15 October 2018 when they use their credit cards via a contactless transaction (Apple Pay rewards you the quickest!) - registration is required and this is only limited to the first 25,000 cardholders during the promotion period.

Standard Chartered to reduce Cashback Cap on Grab Rides from May 2018 - from S$50 to S$30

I wrote about the possibility of getting 20% cashback on Grab rides with an eligible Standard Chartered credit card last week and speculated that the arrangement (which was previously forged with Uber prior to the merger) would be extended now that the Grab-Uber merger is on the horizon. While Standard Chartered appears to have extended this promotion up until July 2018, they have lowered the maximum amount of cashback that you can get each calendar month to SGD 30 (from SGD 50).

20% Cashback on Grab Rides with Standard Chartered - Capped at S$50 Cashback per Month

I wrote about the best credit cards to use on Uber and Grab previously and my credit card of choice was the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Credit Card which gives 20% rebate (capped at S$50 cashback per month) on all Uber rides when a minimum of S$900 in retail transactions were made in each calendar month. With the upcoming Grab-Uber merger on the horizon, Standard Chartered has now ported over this benefit to the Grab platform - eligible cardholders of eligible credit cards issued by Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) Limited can now earn 20% cashback on the Grab App from 01 April 2018 to 30 April 2018 with a minimum spend of S$900 in total retail transaction.

Enhanced Benefits (2018) for Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Card - More

The Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Card comes with a S$588.50 annual fee that cannot be waived but it is one of the cheapest ways to purchase miles by paying for the card's annual fees. While existing cardholders have been given a fairly lackluster renewal offer, new card applicants can benefit from 35,000 miles when they pay for the annual fee - only S$16.81 for 1,000 miles! With the start of the new year, the Standard Chartered Visa Infinite Card has scaled back some benefits but also started to offer a little more.

Analysing the OCBC 360 and Standard Chartered Bonus Saver Account (2017) - Which is Better?

I have been a strong advocate for OCBC Bank's 360 Account for the longest time and even with the recent changes that went into effect on 01 April 2017, it is still a great account to have - you now receive bonus interest on up to S$70,000 in the account. Almost every other major bank in Singapore has a competing product and I have previously concluded that the UOB One Account is not optimal since you only earn an effective rate of 2.43% instead of the 3.33% that they advertise. Standard Chartered Bank has a Bonus$aver (yes, it is unfortunately spelled that way) that apparently offers up to 3.88% p.a. of interest which sounds significantly more than what OCBC Bank advertises with the 360 Account. Find out which is better in this article!

Get 3.88% Interest with Standard Chartered's BonusSaver Account

The OCBC 360 Account was a game changer in Singapore - for most of us average Singaporeans, the account brought the pathetic 0.05% interest rates offered by most banks to something that was decent enough to make us switchover (even from Standard Chartered Bonus$aver). Once this has taken off, UOB quickly followed with the One Account (click HERE to find out whether the OCBC 360 or UOB One is better!) to steal some of the market share. A couple of days ago, Standard Chartered unveiled the brand new Bonus$aver Deposit Account that gives up to 3.88% interest p.a. on your first S$100,000 deposit balance (OCBC and UOB applies the bonus interest on the first S$60,000 and S$50,000 respectively only).
