While shopping for hotel room nights (yes, I actually do that!), I realised that the Conrad Centennial Singapore has a HHonors Discount room rate listed - upon closer inspection, this room rate offers the same cancellation policy as the Easy Cancellation rate but it comes with a 10% discount - not bad at all! Strangely enough, I do not see an Advance Purchase (non-cancellable) rate so hopefully this is not a direction that the hotel (or brand) is moving towards.
I am not too sure if this is a rate error on the Conrad Centennial Singapore or not but I will definitely monitor and report back. Also, it seems like the refurbishment plans at the property has been put on hold until further notice! Brian Cohen from The Gate has also noted that the discount rate varies from the number of days prior to arrival:
- Two percent for reservations booked within 14 days of arrival, for stays seven days per week
- Three percent for reservations booked 15 days or greater prior to arrival, for stays Sunday through Thursday — or Saturday through Wednesday at hotel and resort properties in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Egypt and Jordan
- Ten percent for reservations booked 15 days or greater prior to arrival, for stays Friday through Saturday — or Thursday through Friday at hotel and resort properties in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Egypt and Jordan
Launching on 11 October 2018, the world's longest flight will be operated by Singapore Airlines between Singapore and New York (Newark) - the flight time is 18 hours and 45 minutes. Singapore Airlines and Canyon Ranch, the world’s premiere integrative wellness brand, have forged a partnership to re-invent ultra-long-haul travel with a focus on wellness cuisines, rest and relaxation, and general well-being on the world’s longest flights.
After a series of Business Class flights on Emirates, I have finally achieved MVP Gold status on the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program. I have previously written about how crediting flights to the right program makes a world of difference - on my Business Class flights from Singapore to New York, I would have gotten only a one-way Economy Class flight from Singapore to Perth if I had credited it to Emirates Skywards. However, since I chose to credit it to my the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account, I had almost enough miles for a return-flight (somewhat even though a short detour is required) to Tokyo in Business Class.
Eligible Standard Chartered cardholders used to be able to enjoy 20% cashback on Grab rides previously but that promotion has expired on 31 July 2018. From now until 31 December 2018, you will be able to enjoy up to 15% cashback on Grab rides in Singapore (and overseas!) when you charge at least S$900 of eligible retail spend each month to your Standard Chartered Credit Card - the cashback is capped at S$30 per month per cardholder.
If you are planning to travel to the US next year, it may be a good idea to lock-in attractive USD/SGD rates well before your trip - especially when the DBS Multi-Currency Account (MCA) is offering a promotional interest rate of 2.50% p.a. from September to December 2018 on eligible fresh funds deposited in the account. The MCA comes with a range of different benefits, so if you are expecting to transact in USD in the year ahead, you will probably want to take advantage of this promotion to lock-in the attractive interest rates and save up for your upcoming expenses in the meantime.
The Citi Rewards Card is one of my recommended credit cards to hold in Singapore - up until last month, this credit card was offering a massive 8 miles per dollar on all Apple Pay transactions! Now that the promotion has ended, cardholders are still able to earn up to 10X Rewards (4 miles per dollar) when shopping for clothes, bags or shoes or at department stores or online shopping websites at eligible merchants. As you already know, the 10X Rewards is capped at maximum of 120,000 Rewards points per card anniversary year - this is about to change on 04 October 2018.
I recently received an email from a reader with the following InterContinental Ambassador benefits - do note that this is not official and it was basically a survey that was sent out to a member in the IHG Rewards Club Advisors team. The proposed membership in this survey is priced at USD 250 (instead of USD 200 at the moment) and it offers a number of potentially interesting and useful benefits on top of the usual ones that current InterContinental Ambassador members are getting.
I recently spent slightly over a week in Auckland for work and on my way back, I stopped over at the Strata Lounge at Auckland Airport for a quick look and see. I had initially wanted to do a proper lounge review but I always feel out of place with my camera so I ended up just snapping a few photos with my iPhone X. Check out this Priority Pass lounge in Auckland Airport!
The Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) is a collection of small and independent luxury hotels where guests can enjoy authentic travel experiences - The Scarlet Singapore and Naumi are both SLH properties in Singapore! Hyatt Hotels Corporation and SLH has announced plans to bring World of Hyatt members opportunities to enjoy loyalty benefits in more places and this collaborative effort is expected to launch at the end of the year.
Ever since the Conrad Centennial Singapore completed a series of refurbishments, I have been back on multiple occasions - I love the location of the property since there are various great restaurants which I like in the vicinity and more importantly, the Hilton Honors program is one that I try to achieve at least Gold each year. In fact, with my recent successes with getting pre-upgraded even as a Gold member, I may look towards obtaining Diamond for the year ahead by switching some stays over from Hyatt to Hilton. I have previously stayed in a Centennial Suite approximately three years ago but this year was the first time that i actually stayed in a recently-refurbished one.
John Paul is one of the world's leading concierge service and OCBC used to utilise them for OCBC VOYAGE Cardholders. From 01 September 2018, OCBC will be replacing them with TEN Concierge (whom I have personally not heard of) - I do believe that there will be no change to the way cardholders utilise this service but I guess we will find out in a month or so. TEN Concierge claims to have direct access to a live allocation of music, sport and theatre tickets, which is not available to the public but only time will tell.
