Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay Opening March 2027 on the Former Liang Court Site

Back in November 2019, I wrote about Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay closing to make way for a Moxy hotel, with an opening originally pencilled in for 2025. That timeline has slipped by a couple of years, but Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay now has its own page on Marriott.com, which lists the hotel as “opening soon” with a March 2027 launch. Reservations are not yet available, so there is nothing to book just yet. Still, this will be the first Moxy hotel in Singapore, and it is worth a closer look given where it sits.

Long-time Singaporeans will remember the Liang Court site along River Valley Road. Opened in 1984, it comprised Liang Court mall (once home to the Daimaru department store), the 403-room Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay and the Somerset Liang Court serviced residence. The important point here is that Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay is not a rebrand of the old Novotel. The entire site was demolished and redeveloped by City Developments (CDL) and CapitaLand into CanningHill Piers, an integrated development designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Alongside the hotel, it includes two residential towers and the new Somerset Clarke Quay Singapore serviced residence. The Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay itself is a 21-storey tower, and it will be owned by CDL Hospitality Trusts once completed.

The elephant in the room is room size. With most rooms around 16.5 to 17.5 sqm, these will be compact even by Singapore standards. That is very much the Moxy formula: smaller rooms with clever wall storage, with the social energy pushed out into the bar and public spaces instead. When the project was first announced, a rooftop bar overlooking the Singapore River and Marina Bay was flagged as part of the plan, which would suit the brand (and the neighbourhood) perfectly.

Moxy sits in Marriott’s playful, lifestyle-focused tier, so manage expectations accordingly. Do not expect a club lounge or spacious rooms, and Marriott Bonvoy elites should not count on the kind of upgrade upside you would get at a full-service property.

Where it should shine is location. Clarke Quay, Robertson Quay and Fort Canning Park are all on the doorstep, and the Moxy Singapore Clarke Quay is well connected by MRT. For overseas friends visiting Singapore on a budget, or for a fun staycation close to the riverside bars, it could be a sensible addition to the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio here.
