How to Pre-Select Meals on Qantas Flights - Why Should You Bother Even in Business Class

I flew twice on Qantas last year in Business Class and was really disappointed with the current A380 cabin product - they are old, poorly maintained (and cleaned!) but more importantly, the service on that flight was fairly lackluster as well. With that being said, I did enjoy my day flight from Melbourne back to Singapore on the Qantas A330-300 Business Class product. One of the things that I noticed on both flights however is that the cabin crew did not try to upsell any items on the menu - this means that you have a higher chance of not getting your meal choice on the flight (since some dishes just sound better than the rest).

On my flight from Singapore to Melbourne last year, the item that I have requested for was unavailable (the cabin crew only came by a couple of minutes after to inform me of this) and there are some things that I just personally avoid (not because I have an allergy to them but simply due to personal preferences). Therefore, I decided to be a little more proactive this time on my upcoming Qantas flight in Business Class. While Qantas does not offer an extensive range of menu items like Singapore Airlines does with the Book The Cook service, it does allow you to pre-select your in-flight meal between 7 days and 12 hours prior to your flight.

For my upcoming flight between Singapore and Brisbane, I was given three options for the supper meal service (since it is an overnight flight):

  1. I do not want a meal

  2. I'll select my meal now

  3. I'll select my meal onboard

For the sake of gluttony (as well as to feature more in my potential trip report), I have decided to go with the second option and there were five supper options available on this upcoming flight. The selection process is fairly simple and you will get an immediate confirmation on your meal choice - I will certainly cover this if I end up writing a trip report for this flight.
