Upcoming Hotel Category Changes for Marriott Bonvoy Free Night Award on 4 March 2020
Marriott Bonvoy will be making some hotel category changes which will go live on 04 March 2020 - this will affect the number of required points for a free night award. Do note that the required points are subjected to peak-pricing which means you may require more (or less!) points on a given day. While there will be plenty of properties moving up the ladder, we will also see some properties going down so less Marriott Bonvoy Points are required for a free night after 04 March 2020.

In Singapore, two hotels will be moving down the category ladder - both the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach and The St. Regis Singapore will become Category 6 (from Category 7) properties on 04 March 2020. This means that Marriott Bonvoy members will require only 50,000 (instead of 60,000) points on a standard redemption for a free award night. In Kuala Lumpur (which is a popular city for mattress runs), the Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, Autograph Collection as well as The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur will move to Category 2 and Category 5 respectively.
It is a good idea to check out the upcoming hotel category changes and either lock-in the cheaper redemption rates now, or later (if the hotel is moving down the category ladder). Be sure to redeem five consecutive nights if you can to fully maximise the value that your Marriott Bonvoy points can bring.
