Qantas Unveils New Auckland International Lounge with Exclusive Platinum Dining

Qantas has officially announced the opening of its brand-new Auckland International Lounge, scheduled to open on 17 December 2025. Just in time for the peak Christmas holiday season, the new facility represents a significant upgrade for the airline's trans-Tasman and long-haul passengers, offering a space that is 60 per cent larger than its predecessor. The new lounge has been designed to support Qantas' growing network, including the popular direct service between Auckland and New York. With a capacity for over 370 guests, the space is thoughtfully divided into dedicated zones for dining, working, and relaxation, ensuring that both business and leisure travellers can find their own corner of calm before a flight.

Designed by David Caon, the lounge takes inspiration from the local landscape to create a natural, relaxed atmosphere. The design brings the outside in through the extensive use of living green walls, travertine tiles, and terrazzo tabletops. The furniture is bespoke, featuring upholstery in premium New Zealand wool and leather. A striking focal point of the lounge is a four-metre artwork by artist Gabrielle Penfold, which captures the iconic North Head of Devonport.

Perhaps the most exciting addition for frequent flyers is the introduction of a dedicated dining concept. For the first time across the entire Qantas global lounge network, Platinum One and Platinum Frequent Flyers will have exclusive access to a dedicated à la carte dining area. This premium zone will serve a seasonal menu curated by Qantas Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service, Neil Perry. Highlights include:

  • Crumbed local fish and chips

  • Salt and pepper squid

  • Neil Perry’s signature pavlova

For Gold members, Qantas Club members, and Business Class passengers, the general dining area will not disappoint. It features a comprehensive buffet showcasing New Zealand produce, a new gelato station, and a cocktail bar serving premium beverages and barista-made coffee.

Understanding the needs of the modern traveller, especially those connecting to long-haul flights to the US, Qantas has significantly upgraded the amenities.

  • Power: 70 per cent of seats are fitted with charging points (USB and AC), ensuring devices are topped up before boarding.

  • Showers: There are 15 shower suites available, a crucial amenity for those freshening up before the 16-hour trek to New York.

This opening comes at a perfect time for me personally. I will be hitting Qantas Platinum status very soon, just in time to take advantage of these new benefits. While Business Class lounges are often perfectly adequate, the addition of a dedicated à la carte dining room for Platinum members is a massive value-add. It bridges the gap between a standard Business Lounge and a First Class Lounge, similar to what we see with specific dining rooms in other premium airline hubs. I am particularly excited to check out the Neil Perry menu and see if the service levels match the First vibe they are aiming for.
