From 15 May 2025, Singapore commuters can tap their American Express cards for MRT and bus rides. No pre-registration, no added fees - just seamless rewards and convenience.

Get 4.4 miles per dollar on eligible overseas (non-SGD) transactions and public transport (via mobile wallet on trains and buses) with your UOB PRVI Miles Card until 31 December 2019.

While I thought that Express Transit Mode was not enabled in Singapore previously, a friend of mine actually noticed that that you can in fact, set up a payment card in Express Transit Mode.

Commuters in Singapore can now add Mastercard as well as Visa cards to their SimplyGo accounts to enable them to use their credit and debit cards (with contactless functions) to make fare payments on the bus as well as on the train.

As you may already know, Mastercard has partnered with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and TransitLink to launch Mastercard contactless payments on buses and trains. Commuters are currently able to use their credit and debit card (with Mastercard contactless function) to make fare payments - you will not need to top-up your card since transactions will be processed, accumulated and charged to your relevant credit or debit card. From 06 June 2019, Visa cards will also be supported and in case you are wondering, mobile wallets (e.g. Apple Pay) are supported as well.
