SimplyGo to Support Visa Contactless Cards from 06 June 2019 - Take Public Transport with Your Mobile Device!
As you may already know, Mastercard has partnered with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and TransitLink to launch Mastercard contactless payments on buses and trains. Commuters are currently able to use their credit and debit card (with Mastercard contactless function) to make fare payments - you will not need to top-up your card since transactions will be processed, accumulated and charged to your relevant credit or debit card. From 06 June 2019, Visa cards will also be supported and in case you are wondering, mobile wallets (e.g. Apple Pay) are supported as well.
From 06 June 2019, commuters will be able to link both Mastercard as well as Visa cards to their account in order to enjoy the benefits of SimplyGo. If you would like to jump on-board the bandwagon right now, the brand new KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card will allow you to earn up to 3 miles per dollar (more accurately, 15 miles per S$5) on all eligible spend on Singapore Airlines (including SilkAir and Scoot) expenses, online shopping, transport and dining (so long S$500 is spent with Singapore Airlines Group each year). Do note that the bonus miles will only be posted at the end of the membership year so it is worthwhile to account for this delayed posting (since it affects redemption).
