Hyatt has just published their annual award chart updates that will take effect on 18 March 2019 - the number of World of Hyatt points required for a free night will change at some hotels. As you may remember, Points + Cash rates are now less attractive as members are required to pay 50% of the Standard Rate for standard rooms. In general, most of the affected hotels in Asia will be experiencing a reduction in hotel category (meaning it will cost you less points for free night) but hotels in Japan and South Korea in particular will see an increase in the number of required points in the near future.
Many hotels in China will see a decrease in hotel category and most of them will land in either Category 1 (5,000 points per night) or Category 2 (8,000 points per night). Notable properties in China that are moving to Category 2 include the Grand Hyatt Xian, Grand Hyatt Chengdu and the Hyatt Regency Beijing Wangjing. The upcoming changes will also put both the Grand Hyatt Bali (decrease) as well as the Hyatt Regency Bali (increase) in the same category - both properties will require 8,000 points per night from 18 March 2019.
Properties that are moving to Category 7 in Asia include the amazing Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills (where I have spent two nights in last year) as well as the legendary Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa - both properties will soon require 30,000 points per night. In Singapore, the Andaz Singapore will move from Category 6 to Category 5 (same category as the Grand Hyatt Singapore) so a free night will only require 20,000 points soon.

I have recently completed an amazing stay at the W Taipei where I was upgraded into a Marvelous Suite as a Platinum Elite member. However, when I looked at my Marriott Bonvoy account this morning, I realised that the points posted here approximately 14% lower than what I was expecting - it is always a good idea to calculate an estimated ballpark figure for the number of points you will earn from each stay and then reconcile it afterwards.
