Massive Waitrr Rewards Devaluation - Loyalty Points Worth 8X Less Now
Two weeks ago, I wrote about the upcoming devaluation to the Waitrr Rewards program. I have always been a strong advocate for the app since it allows me to save time by beating the queue - I usually make an order before popping into the shower and pick it up along the way back to the office when I leave the gym. Today, changes to the Waitrr Rewards program have been made and effectively immediately, all your existing loyalty points on the platform are worth 8X lesser now. If you are a new user, using my referral code 'MAR94817' will give you S$3 off your first order.

While you are still able to earn 10 points per S$1 spent on Waitrr, you will now require 4,000 points to redeem for a S$2 credit - this is equivalent to 0.5% cashback as compared to 4% previously. Prior to these changes today, Waitrr members used to be able to redeem the same S$2 credit with just 500 points!
While the changes to Waitrr Rewards are obviously undesirable (from a consumer standpoint), it is important to recognise that the main purpose of this app is to help you to beat that snaking queue (especially if you work in the CBD) during lunch. Using Waitrr also allows you to unlock the opportunity to earn 4 miles per dollar (using credit cards like the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard) across all participating merchants on the platform. Now obviously the 0.5% cashback with Waitrr Rewards isn’t going to sway everyone onto the platform (let’s be honest, 0.5% is miserable) immediately, it is still a nice perk for something that you would already use on a regular basis. Besides, there are always merchant-specific promotions that you can take advantage of on the platform (e.g. 50% off your next two orders at Subway which is running right now) so there is certainly still value in using it.
