Stacking the (Physical) GrabPay Card with ShopBack GO - Earn Miles, GrabRewards Points and Cashback Altogether!
While it is no secret that the GrabRewards programme underwent a major devaluation on 02 March 2020, it is still a decent card to hold (for now) if you are willing to deal with its shortcomings. I have been using the digital card for the longest time but I decided to activate my physical card a couple of weeks ago (do note that your card number changes once you do so) to utilise my GrabPay Card's balance at physical locations (e.g. restaurants).
You should be familiar with ShopBack GO by now but if for some reason, you do not know what it is or how it works, do check out my tips on saving money and earning more miles. ShopBack GO has been relatively aggressive lately and users can earn 35% cashback (capped at S$12 per brand) across participating merchants each week which is fantastic.
After linking my GrabPay Card to ShopBack GO, I went to Paradise Teochew for dinner last night and paid using the aforementioned card. Since Paradise Teochew is a participating merchant on ShopBack GO (albeit offering just a 3% cashback), I expected the transaction to come through immediately on my app. When using a linked credit card, the cashback that I earn from offline physical merchants typically post immediately but sadly, it did not come through for GrabPay Card (or so I thought). Approximately 20-30 minutes later, I realised a notification on my ShopBack app notifying me that my transaction at Paradise Teochew has been recorded and the correct cashback amount has been tracked.
Now there are plenty of ways to top-up your GrabPay Card balance but you can get 4 miles per dollar on the first S$1,000 (unofficially but it has been working for more than a year now) that you top-up using a particular credit card. Even though GrabRewards members can only earn up to 4 GrabRewards Points per dollar now (as opposed to 10 GrabRewards Points prior to 02 March 2020), it is still a good way to double-dip where points and miles are concerned. Additionally, once you have activated your physical GrabPay Card, you will be able to link it to ShopBack GO and triple-dip on earnings - 4 miles per S$1, 4 GrabRewards points per S$1 and up to 35% cashback!
